Real Madrid's president, Florentino Pérez, has responded to reports of Inter Milan interest in Luka Modric and says they will have to pay his release clause in full.

Inter Milan's interest in Luka Modric landed in Miami after the front page of Gazzetta dello Sport suggested the Croatian was agitating for a move out of the club. Real Madrid have not taken long to respond to the speculation and their message is forceful.

"Modric is not leaving Real Madrid," said Florentino Pérez. "He is not leaving unless someone pays the 750 million euros of his release clause and not a euro less." There is no way that Inter can afford the 32-year-old at the price unless Modric says openly that he wants to leave. After six years of a good relationship, that seems highly unlikely if not impossible.

According to the Italian newspaper, Modric's wife, Vanja Bosnic, is the one itching for a move away from Spain. The midfielder has a contract until 2020 and is currently making approximately 9 million euros per year. Madrid might consider reviewing his contract in an effort to extend his deal given his good form to end the season which culminated in another Champions League title and a runner-up medal at the World Cup.
