The 30-year-old Argentina winger has stated his intention to retire in his homeland but is eyeing one final pay day with the Ligue 1 giants.
Ángel Di Maria has been in good form in 2018-19 under the guidance of Thomas Tuchel as PSG have embarked on a record-breaking start to the Ligue 1 season and the Argentinean is hoping his position has been strengthened as he enters into negotiations over a new contract at the Parc des Princes.
The 30-year-old winger reportedly looked into a move elsewhere last summer but has become a key member of Tuchel’s in-form side with six goals and three assists in 12 appearances so far this season. Now, according to reports in France, Di María intends to leverage a new deal worth 12 million euros a year with the Ligue 1 giants, a sum that PSG are reluctant to part with.
Di María: "I hope my last club in Europe will be PSG"
Di María is out of contract at the end of the season and his agent, Jorge Mendes, has been sounding out Premier League sides about the possibility of a return to England for his client, where that kind of money might be on the table. When Di María signed for Manchester United his salary was in that region but he was 27 at the time and a similar pay day may be hard to come by now given his age and an underwhelming two seasons at Old Trafford where he struggled to adapt, scoring just four times in 32 appearances.
“I want to retire in Argentina but I hope my last club in Europe will be PSG,” Di María told Telefoot recently. With 56 goals and 55 assists in 147 games for the club the winger’s stock is certainly high in Paris, but it remains to be seen if PSG will bow to his demands before next summer.
