Lopetegui: "it's a tough blow but I have the strength to continue"
Real Madrid manager Julen Lopetegui remained positive about his future leading the team following his side's 5-1 loss to rivals FC Barcelona.
Real Madrid manager Julen Lopetegui appeared in front of the media looking like a man who's side had just been thrashed 5-1 at the home of their bitter rivals. The defeat at the hands of Barcelona leaves Los Blancos in ninth position in LaLiga, seven points off the Catalan leaders.
Lopetegui on the match
“The defeat is tough, and it's even tougher at the home of Barça. We felt that we could've turned the game around but we couldn't. We had chances to turn things around. They had a penalty and another caught us on another occasion but it wasn't a 2-0 half.
"We changed things in the second half, and we were much better. We had clear chances to score, hit the post, and could have got back into the game. It didn't happen and then more misfortune came our way with injuries. The third goal ended our hopes and we were excessively punishmed after that, with the scoreline not reflecting the reality of the game."
Lopetegui on how he feels
"At the moment I am sad, as is the dressing room, but I'm strong. I'm the manager, we're in the month of October, and it's a tough blow. The situation can be turned around, the team will keep growing, improving. I am sad but have the strength to take this team forward, of this there is no doubt.
"There is a long way to go, and I have lots of faith in this group of players. We've had a bad run of luck, which has to come to an end.”
