Maxi López, who starred for River Plate and Barcelona among others, gave his verdict to AS on Exequiel Palacios, who could soon be a Real Madrid player.
Maxi López, who was once on the books at River Plate and Barcelona among other clubs, sat down with AS to give his thoughts on Exequiel Palacios, who could shortly become Real Madrid's first signing of 2018/19: "He has a lot of quality, and a great future ahead of him. He's a player who I can see adapting really well in Europe. I think it would be better for him to build up a little more experience in South America and get himself prepared for when a big club like Real Madrid come knocking so that he can perform to the best of his abilities".
Being prepared to play in Europe
Maxi is speaking from personal experience - back in the day, he made the leap from Argentina to join one of Europe's top clubs - Barça: "By the end, I'd spent six seasons playing in Argentina - three years as a professional and it's always difficult to adapt to a European club of that magnitude. So the more experience you can gain before taking that step, the better", he explained.
Madrid have never signed a dud from River
Real Madrid's interest in Palacios is a massive boost for the young River Plate star and Maxi understands how easy it would be for the player to accept the offer: "When a big club like Madrid shows interest, any doubts that you might have just disappear and you accept. When all is said and done, it's worth taking a risk and try to settle in as quickly as possible. I think he's got a promising future ahead of him. And besides, Real Madrid whenever Real Madrid have signed a player from River Plate it's always worked out well for them. So he's got everything going for him".
