The video assistant referee system has altered decisions in three games in LaLiga week 13.
With one game still to be played on LaLiga matchday 13, the video assistant referee (VAR) system has intervened as many as four times this weekend.
Eibar's 3-0 win over Real Madrid saw VAR give the hosts' opening goal, scored by Gonzalo Escalante, after it had initially been ruled out for offside; in Valencia's 3-0 victory over Rayo Vallecano, referee Pablo González Fuertes incorrectly booked Bebe for a foul committed by Luis Advíncula, before being told of his error and showing the Peruvian what was his second yellow card; and in Huesca and Levante's 2-2 draw at El Alcoraz, a Xabier Etxeita strike for the home side was disallowed for offside after a video review, and Emmanuel Boateng's effort for the visitors was chalked off for the same infringement before being reinstated.
Here's the actual LaLiga table (left) and what it would look like without VAR (right):
VAR interventions that have changed the outcome of the game:
Villarreal 0 - Girona 1 (1-1 without VAR)
The video ref alerted the match official out in the middle that Karl Toko Ekambi was in an offside position when he found the net for Villarreal. Without technology, the goal would have rescued a point for the Submarino Amarillo.
Real Madrid 1 - Espanyol 0 (0-0)
Antonio Mateu Lahoz deemed that Marco Asensio was offside when he put Real Madrid ahead against Espanyol, only for VAR to rectify the decision and award the strike, which proved to be the game's only goal.
Sevilla 2 - Celta 1 (1-1)
Wissam Ben Yedder made it 2-0 to Sevilla with an effort that was initially disallowed for offside, before the assistant referee's decision to raise his flag was corrected by VAR.
Real Madrid 1 - Levante 2 (2-1)
VAR was twice involved in reversing decisions that would otherwise have seen the match finish 2-1 to Madrid. Firstly, it told referee Guillermo Cuadra Fernández that a handball by Raphael Varane had occurred inside the area rather than outside, bringing about a Levante penalty that was converted by Roger Martí and put the visitors 2-0 up. Moments later, Asensio looked to have pulled one back with a close-range finish, only for a VAR review to show he was offside.
Valencia 1 - Leganés 1 (1-0)
Leganés took the lead at Mestalla after referee Ignacio Iglesias Villanueva was told by the video official of a possible foul by Ezequiel Garay on Óscar Rodríguez. After reviewing the incident on his pitchside monitor, Iglesias Villanueva gave the spot-kick, which was scored by Gerard Gumbau.
Eibar 1 - Athletic 1 (0-1)
Athletic Bilbao defender Íñigo Martínez fouled Eibar striker Sergi Enrich in the area and, after watching it back on his monitor, referee Jesús Gil Manzano pointed to the spot. Charles Díaz proceeded to convert the penalty.
Rayo 1 - Athletic 1 (2-1)
Raúl de Tomás' goal did not stand after Cuadra Fernández confirmed on his monitor that the Rayo striker, who is on loan at Vallecas from Real Madrid, controlled the ball with his hand in the build-up. Without VAR, it would have been three points for the Franjirrojo.
Valencia 0 - Girona 1 (1-1)
Geoffrey Kondogbia thought he had put Valencia ahead after turning in Garay's cross, but referee Javier Alberola Rojas opted to disallow the goal when told by VAR ref Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea that the ball had run out of play before being delivered by the Argentine defender.
Getafe 0 - Valencia 1 (0-0)
With 13 minutes remaining, De Burgos Bengoetxea adjudged that Bruno González had fouled Kevin Gameiro in the penalty area after re-watching the incident. Bruno was shown a second booking and sent off, and Dani Parejo scored from 12 yards to win it for Los Che.
Atlético 3 - Athletic 2 (2-2)
Diego Godín's stoppage-time winner for Atlético was initially chalked off for offside, only for a VAR review to show that Athletic's Raúl García was playing the Uruguayan onside.
Huesca 2 - Levante 2 (3-1)
In the opening period, VAR disallowed a goal by Huesca's Etxeita for offside, before a second-half strike by Boateng was finally given after the Levante striker was initially deemed to have been in an illegal position.
