Real Madrid are convinced that new signing Brahim Díaz is destined to become one of the best midfielders in the world and have inserted an eye-watering buy-out clause into the 19-year-old’s contract to ward off any potential future suitors.

Díaz officially joined Madrid from Manchester City for a fee of 15 million euros on Monday, with another five million in add-ons, a figure the Bernabéu board were happy to sanction with the player out of contract and available on a free in the summer. And to make their intention to keep the Spain under-21 international in the long-term plain, Madrid have slapped a minimum release clause of 750 million euros on the youngster’s head.

That sum is higher than both Isco and Marco Asensio, who recently renewed their contracts at the club with clauses of 700 million euros. Dani Ceballos, who has been gaining importance under Santiago Solari, has a clause of 500 million.

Díaz signed a six-and-a-half year contract at the Bernabéu and the capture of one of the most highly rated young players in Europe was something of a coup for Madrid. Manchester City attempted to persuade the player to remain in the Premier League until the last minute and both PSG and Juventus made contact with his agent to try and hammer out a deal under Madrid’s nose.
