The Real Madrid captain said after receiving the Siete Estrellas sports award: "At Madrid, everyone wants to play and it's a difficult job for the coach making those decisions".
Sergio Ramos was presented with the best sportsman award in the Men's category in the Siete Estrellas sports awards gala at the Real Casa de Correos today. On receiving the award, the Real Madrid captain gave a short speech before speaking to the media:
"It's an honour for me to accept this award, when something is about representing values, it has a special meaning, that's something that will always be deep inside me. I am Andalucian and a Sevillano, but Madrid accepted me 13 years ago and made me feel at home. And with Real Madrid, I have always represented this city, Madrid with honesty. While there are a lot of people representing Atlético here today, Hala Madrid!".
Reaching three figures
Scoring 100 career goals.
"Goals are what the fans see and recognize but our job as defenders is also to try and avoid conceding them. I've been lucky enough to score some very importantgoals which have won us trophies and that figure, 100, is an number to bear in mind".
Being considered one of the team's main goal scorers.
"Those decisions don't depend on us, but in training, I do score quite a few".
3-0 win over Leganés and Madrid's "crisis".
"Sometimes, a crisis at Madrid is when the team draws two games in a row, that's why we wanted to get back to winning ways and get several good results under our belts to return something back to the Bernabéu. In the last few months we've been a bit distant and that's not good for them or us. Historically, we faced up to our problems as one and those moments of silence an uncertainty at the stadium actually do us some good".
Good to talk
Team meeting after the 0-2 defeat to Real Sociedad.
"The other day we did what we needed to do - talk".
Can the situation between Solari and Isco get back to normal?
"It's complicated, at Real Madrid, everyone wants to play and that makes the coach's job even more difficult. But this is Madrid and the issue is always who gets to play and who doesn't, if we need to sign a striker, who should be in goal... the newspapers always need something to write about and we're doing our best to help them, so that you don't get bored".
