Imke Wübbenhorst, the first female coach of a club in the top five tiers of Germany's men's game, negotiated an inappropriate question with a cutting response.
BV Cloppenburg boss Imke Wübbenhorst, who became the first female coach of a club in the top five leagues of German men's football when she was appointed by the outfit late last year, put a journalist firmly in his place this week by dishing out a withering response to an ill-judged question motivated by her gender.
I pick team on penis size - coach's sarcastic riposte
Asked in an interview with the German newspaper Welt whether her players should make sure to cover themselves up before she walked into the dressing room, Wübbenhorst sarcastically retorted: "Of course not. I'm a professional. I pick the team on penis size."
Appointed by Cloppenburg in December
Wübbenhorst, 30, took over at fifth-tier Cloppenburg in December, tasked with steering the relegation-threatened side away from the Oberliga Niedersachsen drop zone. A former Cloppenburg player and Germany Under-23 international, she had been employed in coaching roles with the club's women's team since hanging up her boots in 2016.
