With the Real Madrid youth academy graduate recently taking the Brazilian's place in Solari's starting eleven, Marcelo no longer sees the option of joining Juventus as implausible.

Real Madrid defender Sergio Reguilón has capitalised on Marcelo’s recent poor form and earned his place ahead of the Brazilian in Santiago Solari’s starting eleven. The academy graduate was named as a starter for the second consecutive game in LaLiga and impressed again, with five ball recoveries and boasting a 90-percent pass accuracy rate against Sevilla.

Reguilón’s good spell of form has coincided with Marcelo’s worst. Asked on three occasions about the current form of Marcelo in the press conference before the Sevilla game, Solari avoided answering if he saw him at 100 percent.

Meanwhile, Juventus are keen to sign Marcelo, who is now beginning to consider the possibility of an exit from the Bernabéu in light of his current situation.

Ronaldo's influence

Since Cristiano Ronaldo signed for Juventus last summer, one of his obsessions has been to convince Marcelo to follow him to Turin. The two maintain a great friendship and speak regularly. And AS has learned that in their conversations, Cristiano has not stopped trying to push his former team mate to join Juve.

A few months ago when the conversations first began, Marcelo would not have considered the possibility. The Madrid deputy captain renewed his contract until 2022 in September, 2017, stating at the time that "Madrid has been my second home and I would love to finish here". However, in recent weeks he has confessed to those around him that he no longer sees the option of being reunited with Ronaldo as implausible.

Juventus currently have no issues at left back, with Alex Sandro renewing his contract until 2023 and Mattia De Sciglio also capable of playing in that position. Nevertheless, the Italian club want a top-level player who further raises the level of the squad – and that player is Marcelo.

But regardless of the current situation, the operation would not be easy for Juventus. Despite his poor performance this season, Marcelo remains an important player for Madrid and tne club will not want to sell him. Therefore, the player himself would have to express his desire to leave in order to initiate negotiations between the clubs – something similar to what happened with Ronaldo last summer.
