Atlético fan group officially asks that Courtois' plaque be removed

The Real Madrid keeper was abused by the Atlético Madrid fans behind his goal during the derby in LaLiga at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Atlético Madrid's union of fan groups have officially asked that Thibaut Courtois' plaque be removed from outide the Wanda Metropolitano.

"We have come together to ask for the removal of Courtois' plaque for his lack of respect for Atlético fans. The plaques are for legend of that club that represent its values and the fans. Given his attitude, this player does not deserve it," they said in a proposal.

Thibaut Courtois was pelted with toy rats by angry Atlético fans at the start of the Madrid derby between Atlético Madrid and Real Madrid too, with the goalkeeper then being whistled every time he touched the ball. The Atleti fans also held up a banner calling the Belgian keeper a rat.

The Atlético Madrid fans are angry that the Belgian player, who played for them on loan from Chelsea between 2011 and 2014 helping them to LaLiga title, moved to Real Madrid from Chelsea in the summer of 2018, and made comments calling Simeone a "populist".
