REAL MADRID

Will Ramos force his 5th booking against Girona to be free for El Clásico?

After confessing he deliberately set out to get booked against Ajax, Ramos could try to get a yellow card against Girona, to miss the Levante game and be free to face Barcelona.

This weekend, Sergio Ramos has a agolden chance to ensure he is suspension-free for El Clásico on 2 March. The Real Madrid captain is on four yellow cards - one away from completing a cycle of five which automatically incurs a one-match suspension. If he is booked in Sunday's match against Girona, he would miss the next match - against Levante on 24 February but would wipe the slate clean for, El Clásico against Barcelona at the Bernabéu the following weekend. The problem isn't just bad timing, it's also about public relations after what happened in last week's Champions League game against Ajax; unlike UEFA, LaLiga does not serve punishment to players who deliberately try to get themselves into the book but would  Ramos set out to do so on Sunday and potentially further tarnish his reputation?

The Madrid captain is already waiting to hear what action UEFA's Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body decide to take for deliberately trying to force the ref to book him at the end of the Ajax game so that he could miss the return leg and be free for the quarter finals (providing Madrid go through...). Ramos drew attention to himself by admitting that he set out to be get booked, then retracted what he had said with another message on Twitter in a bid to clear his name.
