Real Madrid: Álvaro Benito has paid "price for telling truth"

Real Madrid: Álvaro Benito has paid "price for telling truth"

Cadena SER's Manu Carreño has reacted to radio colleague Benito's sacking as a Madrid youth coach over his criticism of the first team.

Álvaro Benito has paid "the price for telling the truth" after being sacked as a Real Madrid youth coach for criticising Santiago Solari's team on Spanish radio, says Cadena SER colleague Manu Carreño.

"Sometimes, the price for telling the truth..."

In his role as a pundit for SER, Benito angered Madrid chiefs with his negative analysis of Los Blancos' 3-0 midweek Copa del Rey defeat to Barcelona, and has been replaced as coach of the European champions' Under-18s by club legend Raúl.

"Álvaro Benito is a guy who's Real Madrid through and through but will always say what he thinks," Carreño said in reaction to the news, adding: "Sometimes, the price for telling the truth... That's the way it can go.

"But for better or for worse, he says what he thinks. His position is that being Madrid through and through doesn't mean not saying so when a [Madrid] player isn't playing well, or shouldn't be picked for the next game."

Benito says he has "clear conscience"

In a statement on social media in the wake of his dismissal, Benito insisted that he leaves his position at the LaLiga giants with "a clear conscience".

Benito, who himself came through Madrid's academy as a player, had been a part of the coaching staff at 'La Fábrica' for three seasons.
