60,739 fans were at Atlético Madrid's ground for today's league game between Atlético and Barcelona Femení, beating the previous record: 51,211 set in Mexico.

The Wanda Metropolitano has set a new world record for the biggest attendance in a women's football match in history. As expected before today's Liga Iberdrola game in Madrid, Atlético fans responded to the club's call to make today's Week 24 meeting with fellow title contenders FC Barcelona Femení a day to remember. Over 45,000 tickets had been reserved one week before the 'Clásico' of Spanish women's football and a total of 60,739 spectators turned up for the match - surpassing the previous world record of 51,211 set in the Mexican league during a meeting between Tigres and Monterrey. It was a double celebration for Barcelona Femení, who ran out 0-2 winners on the day - Asisat Oshoala and Toni Duggan were on target for the visitors.

Atlético also beat the Liga Iberdrola's previous attendance record set recent at San Mamés in Bilbao. A capacity 48,121 crowd watched Athletic Club take on Atlético in the Copa de la Reina back in January. In fourth place is the FA Women's Cup game  between Chelsea Ladies and Arsenal Ladies and completing the top 5, the Tigres-América match which drew 41,121.
