The star Barça man was out injured for Argentina's match against Morocco but returned to guide his side to victory over Espanyol on Saturday afternoon.
Leo Messi didn't train with his Barcelona teammates today, Sunday, after their 2-0 win over Espanyol on Saturday afternoon, with the Argentinean responsible for both goals.
No need for alarm for Barcelona fans however, with Messi's absence from the full training session a standard approach from the Argentinean the day after a match; the striker headed to the gym for a light work-out and a bath and massage session. Another reason to take it easy: Messi is still suffering from the bruise he picked up on his right foot during Thursday's training session.
Messi groin issue still there
The groin problem that kept him out of the Morocco game has not gone away, but Messi is coping with it as he's done since December and it's not expected to give any particular issue.
Messi will therefore be in the Barcelona squad for the LaLiga match against Villarreal on Tuesday. Coach Valverde has no intention to rest his star player and less still when he's in such scintillating form: he's scored eight goals in his last four matches. What's more, Atlético Madrid's 0-4 win over Alavés means Barça can't afford to let their guard down, with Simeone promising Atlético will keep fighting for the title until it's mathematically impossible to win it, despite the 10 point gap between the sides.
Barcelona want to tie up title this week
This week is seen as vital for Barcelona to tie up the Spanish Championship. If Barça beat Villarreal and Atlético Madrid the 18/19 Liga title will be almost certain theirs, with a 13 point advantage and only 21 in play.
