Real Madrid close the door on Kovacic move to Atlético
According to 'Carrusel', Atlético asked about a potential deal for the Croatian and Real Madrid told them he wasn't for sale and even less so for Atlético.
Atlético Madrid are interested in Mateo Kovacic but Real Madrid have shut down talk of a move according to Carrusel Deportivo. "He's not for sale, and even less so to Atlético," was the reponse given to the club when they enquired about the Croatian's situation.
Real Madrid paid €30 million for the midfielder in the summer of 2015 and the idea was that he would eventually earn a place in the team. He grew agitated on the bench, however, and demanded a move last summer. He was loaned to Chelsea and has played in 44 games this season accumulating 2,659 minutes.
Relationship with Kovacic and Real Madrid has deteriorated
The relationship between Kovacic and Real Madrid has become increasingly strained and while Real Madrid wanted him to continue at the club this season, he rejected that chance and wanted a move at all costs.
The club do not like how he has handled the situation and those who advise him and would prefer if he didn't return to the club, which makes a transfer likely. Atlético Madrid, however, is off the table. Tottanhem Hotspur are interested in his signing and Zenit have recently approached Real Madrid over a move too.
