After Inter Miami was granted permission to build its new home stadium in Fort Lauderdale on May 3, David Beckham's consortium have wasted little time in commencing the demolition of the legendary Lockhart Stadium.

The Inter Miami board called a press conference to announce the beginning of the work of the Fort Lauderdale venue, a conference that didn't feature Inter owner Beckham but in his place was his business partner Jorge Mas, who was joined by Dean Trantalis, mayor of Fort Lauderdale, and Heather Moraitis, District 1 commissioner.

The conference addressed Lockhart's demolition and provided updates regarding the construction of the new Inter Miami sports complex, which will be the home of the team for the next two MLS seasons.

Jorge Mas: "The joy of sport is what Inter Miami is about"

Discussing the destruction of Lockhart Stadium and what this means to the club, Mas said: "The joy of sport, the joy of this beautiful game, the joy of bringing families together, that is what Inter Miami is about."
