Atlanta United have found a rich vein of form, and during the midweek session they defeated Vancouver Whitecaps at BC Place 1-0 to set a new MLS record.

Josef Martínez was the hero of the night by scoring the one and only goal of the game from the penalty spot in the 29th minute, as Atlanta registered a fifth consecutive win to sit third in the Eastern Conference with 20 points in 11 matches.

The broken record

The Five Stripes are used to breaking records, but since Frank de Boer took charge of the team, Atlanta had not achieved any until the win over the Whitecaps. With the victory, they made it five games in a row without conceding a single goal, which is a league best.

Atlanta have surpassed the record set by the Colorado Rapids in 2003, New England Revolution in 2005, LA Galaxy in 2010, Kansas City in 2012 and 2018, San Jose Earthquakes in 2015, NY Red Bulls in 2016 and NYCFC in 2018, with four matches each.

Atlanta could increase the record if they win their next game, which will be this Sunday, 19 May, when they visit New York Red Bulls at 17:00 ET.
