Former US international and Houston Dynamo captain Da Marcus Beasley announced his retirement for the end of the current season via social media.

The soon-to-be 37-year-old player is currently playing his 20th professional season and is a four-time Gold Cup winner, but has decided to let the world know this will be his last year on the soccer fields.

"Before my 37th birthday, I'd just like to say that this year will be my last. I appreciate all the love, cheers, and jeers throughout these past 20 years. Being on the pith has fulfilled every dream I could have ever imagined. Thank you and more words on another day! #quickliketakingoffabandaid," was the goodbye letter Beasley published on his Twitter account.

Beasley had a successful 20-year career which he spent with eight different teams: LA Galaxy, Chicago Fire, PSV Eindhoven, Manchester City, Glasgow Rangers, Hannover 96, Puebla and Houston Dynamo, the club where he will hang up his cleats.

Some of his most significant moments happened with the Dutch club, PSV, where he won the Eredivisie title during his first year and became the first American footballer to reach a Champions League semi-final.
