OPERATION OIKOS

3 of the arrested in Operation Oikos crossed paths at Real Madrid Castilla

3 of the arrested in Operation Oikos crossed paths at Real Madrid Castilla

Raúl Bravo, Borja and Aranda all played for Real Madrid Castilla at the turn of the century and won Segunda B under the guidance of López Caro.

10 people have been arrested so far in what Spanish police are calling Operation Oikos with allegations of match-fixing spread across three games in LaLiga and Segunda. Amongst those arrested are Raúl Bravo, supposed head of the operation, Borja Fernández and Carlos Aranda.

The three players crossed paths during their spells at Real Madrid Castilla during the 2001-02 season. They finished that season as the winners of the Segunda B's Group III with 80 points and 11 points ahead of Valencia B. They did not achieve promotion to the Segunda, however, when they losed to Almería and then Pontevedra.

The picture shown is from a game on 30 September 2001. In that photo, you see the three player circled with Raúl Bravo, Borja Fernández together beside the goalkeeper, Carlos Sánchez. The first on the left on his hunkers is Aranda. The three arrived at the end of the 90s and were managed by López Caro.

One of the players they shared a dressing room with were Pavón, made famous by the Zidanes and Pavones line.
