Zidane has told the young defender that a loan assignment is being sought fot him. But ‘Regui’ will not resign himself to going just anywhere.
It took him a lot to reach this point. Twenty-two-year-old Sergio Reguilón will still remember the standing ovation he received on the sad night that Real Madrid were eliminated from the Copa del Rey by Barça back in late February.
Solari’s side were unfairly discarded and it was Reguilón, along with Vinicius, who were the standout performers for the home side on a cruel night. After the game, the young defender was consoled by Lucas Vazquez as he broke into tears. And it was then that the Bernabéu took note: “This is one of our own”.
Soon after Solari was fired and Zidane arrived. But we all know that Zizou is not a fan of the Madrid-born left back and he has shown that in his actions. Before the kid headed off on holidays, the coach told him that a loan assignment was being sought for him as he is not part of his plans for next season.
Reguilón could do a 'Carvajal'
But ‘Regui’ will not resign himself to going just anywhere. He wants to find a strong club – a club with prestige and one that can offer him Champions League football.
He could do a ‘Carvajal’: his friend Dani went to Leverkusen and returned a year later after becoming the best right-back in the Bundesliga.
Several Spanish clubs have shown interest in him, among them Alavés and Sevilla. The latter has just appointed Julen Lopetegui as their new coach, who, it must be remembered, had little to do with the young Spaniard during his short time at Madrid, instead opting for Marcelo's experience.
But whatever his decision he will not rush it, as he wants to make the right one for his career. However, there is one thing that Sergio has very clear: he will return to triumph at Madrid.
