PSG sporting direcetor Leonardo has already been in contact with Coutinho’s camp and wants to close a deal for the player once the Copa América is finished.
Following the comments by PSG president Nasser Al Khelaifi – who said on Sunday that he expects players “to do more, work more” and he no longer wants “celebrity behaviour” at the club – new sporting director Leonardo is searching for a strike partner for Neymar and has set his sights on his compatriot, Philippe Coutinho.
The Barcelona striker is currently on duty with Brazil at the Copa América. And Leonardo has already been in contact with Coutinho’s camp and wants to close a deal for the player once the tournament is finished.
Coutinho would look favourably on PSG move
The 27-year-old is a top priority for the PSG sporting director – something which he has already communicated to Al Khelaifi. And the idea of joining PSG to reignite his career after a poor season with Barcelona would be enticing to the player himself.
Having found himself out of favour at Barça, Coutinho would look favourably on taking on a more prominent role at Parc de Princes, aside from the chance to link up with Brazil team mate Neymar (with whom he has an excellent relationship), as well as other compatriots Thiago Silva, Marquinhos and Dani Alves (provided the latter remains at the club).
Despite the interest of Europa League-bound Manchester United, Coutinho would have stated his preference to play for PSG, with whom he would be guaranteed Champions League football next season.
