Borussia Dortmund took American starlet Christian Pulisic under their wing and gave him the chance to develop into one of the most promising players in the United States. After a six-month loan with the Bundesliga side, Pulisic made the leap to the Premier League, joining Chelsea.

Dortmund CEO, Hans-Joachim Watzke talked with The Atheltic about what the challenge of marketing to US audiences implies now that they have lost their main American star, and said he sees a promising replacement with Claudio Reyna's son, Giovanni.

"We have a lot of players who are well known in the US. Christian is the captain of the national team. That's clear. But first, we have a very interesting young player, Giovanni Reyna. He's a big, big talent. I think he will do a lot for American football in the next five or 10 years."

The arrival of 16-year-old Giovanni Reyna comes after Pulisic's departure to London, which could bring the comparisons between the two, since Christian moved to Germany to develop his football career, when he was a year younger than Giovanni, although they have different qualities.

Dortmund have a reputation for developing young talent, and Watzke can see Gio Reyna following a similar path to Pulisic - Reyna who will join the club's Under-19s squad, "Reyna has time to develop. He needs time. But he has everything a player should have. For that, he came to Borussia Dortmund."

Scouting in the USA

Borussia Dortmund has been following young American talent, reason why they need to be informed about 15, 16, 17, year-old players who show potential to join the ranks and with Christian Pulisic and Gio Reyna, Watzke feels confident that his scouting process in the States is working.
