Asensio injury forces Madrid to consider new signing
A top international player has already been offered to Real Madrid this Wednesday following Marco Asensio’s injury.
Marco Asensio's serious injury picked up against Arsenal may significantly alter Real Madrid’s plans this summer.
The Spaniard was Zinedine Zidane’s first choice on the right side of the attack next season. But after it was confirmed that the player had ruptured his ACL against the Gunners and is likely to miss the entire 2019-20 campaign, the club will look at whether it needs to sign a potential new starter on the right wing (it could also decide to bring a halt Lucas Vazquez’s possible move to Arsenal).
Signing a replacement for Asensio would force the club to rethink its summer transfer budget. Los Blancos have already invested 298 million euros and Zidane is still waiting impatiently for Paul Pogba – a signing of Galáctico proportions for whom Manchester United would demand 180 million euros.
Rodriguez, Rodrygo: possible solutions among Real Madrid’s ranks
Ruling out Bale (whose situation, Zidane ensures, hasn’t changed; he’s leaving despite his great game against Arsenal) the most logical solution at zero cost would be another player that has been deemed surplus to requirements, James Rodriguez. The Colombian international wants to solve his future before returning from vacation on July 29 and although he is a ten, he knows how to play on the wing.
Another possibility for Zidane is to put his faith in young Brazilian signing Rodrygo. “His position is to play on the right wing,” the French coach said after the 18-year-old’s goal against Bayern Munich.
Although in that game last Sunday he played in a more central position and in Brazil he played on the left, Zidane sees him on the right, where he could be the chosen option for the Madrid manager.
Top player offered to Real Madrid as Asensio replacement
A top international player who plays for a team in Europe has already been offered to the club this Wednesday following Asensio’s injury. But the response in the Bernabéu boardroom has been that “these problems are solved at home”.
Be that as it may, whether the club looks for a solution among its current ranks or decides to look to the market (where Neymar’s presence looms large, although the club says publically that it is not interested), Asensio's injury has significantly disrupted Zidane's plans before the 2019-20 season has even officially begun.
