Zidane: Bale is staying at Real Madrid
The Real Madrid coach spoke after his side won 3-1 at Balaídos against Celta Vigo in their opening match of the league season 19/20.
Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane spoke after his side ran out 3-1 winners against Celta Vigo, despite losing Modric to a straight red card for a challenge on Denis Suárez.
How do you feel after a winning start to LaLiga?
Very happy. For the players and the effort we put in. Not just with the ball, because defensively we worked really well and that was the key to the game. In the second half, with 10, we played really well. The players should be congratulated and need to carry on like this.
How important it it for the mood to start like this?
It's vital to start this way, playing well and winning. We had difficulties in the pre-season in terms of results but not in terms of work. The work we've done has been phenomenal and today we enjoyed good football and the win.
How do you adjust going down to 10 men in order to score another two and ensure a solid victory?
That's another thing we've got. The work from Vini and Gareth was really good and then we had to change a bit because they worked their socks off and with Isco and Lucas they did really well too. I'm happy for Lucas' goal, but also because of what we did playing with 10 against 11, moving the ball from side to side and playing good football.
It's a tough place to come and we've done well. Celta are going to be tough opponents, they've not changed. But we did really well in everything we did.
He's here like the rest of us. I'm pleased with the way he played. He's staying. Vini and Bale did really well and defended well.
Modric's sending off
I didn't see the images. I spoke to Luca and for him it wasn't a red. The referee decided differently and we have to accept that. We'll see what happens and if it can be just [a] one match [suspension]. (Straight red cards are normally a three game ban in LaLiga).
We're focused on us. What's important is picking up three points. The players deserve to be congratulated.
