Napoli denied the Miracle of Turin in Serie A classic

Juventus 4-3 Napoli: as it happened

Thanks for joining us! Let's hope Napoli are involved in seven goal thrillers every week!

Such a blow for Napoli, who nobody would have pegged to pull back three goals against the Serie A champions in Turin.

90+3

And that's it! What a game! Juve win it 4-3 courtesy of an own goal after Napoli had battled back from 3-0 down!

90+2

That is so unfortunate for the Senegal defender, who has been excellent this evening. It was a decent delivery and he had to react to take it off Ronaldo's foot, but deflected it past Meret in the act!

90+2

Gooooooooooooooool! And it's Koulibaly in his own net!

Elif Elmas in the book as he carves through Dybala. Juve free kick, this one will go straight into the old mixer...

90

Three minutes added...

89

Uffffff! Costa flashes a shot just wide of Meret's far post as the 22-year-old's life flashed before his eyes.

87

Meret in no hurry whatsoever to take a goal kick...

85

Costa whips in a cross but it's bread and butter for Meret, who gratefully smothers the ball.

84

The introduction of Lozano has completely transformed Napoli. What a signing he could turn out to be.

83

Well, well. What to say? Has this game got another twist left in it? Napoli won 4-3 last week against Fiorentina.

81

Gooooooooooooooool! Football, bloody hell! Di Lorenzo bundles it over the line as Juve's marking goes to pot again and incredibly Napoli are level after being three down 15 minutes ago!

80

Alex Sandro in the book for stopping the flying Chucky in his tracks and Napoli have a free kick that looks very similar in range to the Manolas goal...

80

Yup, De Ligt is back on. He probably just fancied a breather...

79

Meanwhile, the game resumes.

78

The Dutchman heads to the sidelines and it's unclear if he's coming back on or heading off...

77

It seems as though De Ligt has a muscle problem...

76

Ufffff! Fabián whips in a wicked cross that just evades the outstretched boot of Lozano.

74

And Juve follow suit as Higuaín goes off to warm applause and Dybala comes on to a huge roar.

73

Napoli make their final change as Allan goes off for Eljif Elmas

70

Szczesny! The Pole is forced into action again as Zielinski lets fly. The ball is loose for a second and Lozano almost gets on the end of it before Alex Sandro sends it into next week.

67

Napoli break down the left through Zielinski and he squares for Lozano, who opens his account for his new side with a side-footed finish! Game on!

Goooooooooooooool! Lozano!

65

A Napoli free kick is cracked in by Fabián and the new signing buries a powerful header past  Szczesny! Napoli do deserve that for their second half display. Whether it will be enough to change the result we'll have to see.

65

Gooooooooooooool! Manolas!

64

That's pretty harsh on Napoli, who have been pushing for a goal and troubled Juve on a couple of occasions but just lack that expert touch, as demonstrated by Ronaldo, that makes the difference. Szczesny has also made a couple of fine saves to be fair.

62

It looked as though VAR was going to get involved there for a minute but in the end nada. The goal stands and that you have to suspect is that.

61

The ball finds its way across the area to the Portuguese, who picks his spot and buries a left footer past Meret.

61

Gooooooooooooooool! Ronaldo!

60

Khedira goes off to an ovation, and a deserved one at that, Emre Can comes on.

59

Cleared for a corner...

59

Free kick to Juve on the edge of the area out on the left...

57

The Napoli shot count is up to 11 now to Juve's seven. Still 2-0 down, but the tide is turning somewhat.

56

Juve incensed as Napoli break from midfield after what the home side felt was a foul on Matuidi. Danilo hammers the danger into the stands though.

54

Szczesny! What a save from the Pole as he tips Mertens' fizzing effort over the bar!

53

Matuidi! Cristiano lays off for the Frenchman and he blasts a left-footer that Meret does well to push around the post... Juve corner.

52

Napoli corner as De Ligt cuts out a dangerous ball...

51

Mertens! The Belgian tries to curl one into the far corner and it's inches wide! Napoli knocking on the door...

50

Zielinski! The Poland international warms the hands of his compatriot in the Juve goal but it was never really going to trouble Szczesny.

48

Almost! Callejón plays a cute ball to Mertens but the Belgian lets it run, assuming someone was coming in behind him.

47

Napoli looking to boss control of the ball at the start of the second. Patient build-up from the visitors but it comes to nothing ultimately. Let's see if Lozano can provide the zip that was missing in the first half.

46

And we're underway again!

It does look as though Lozano is coming on. And Insigne is off for the Mexican. Mario Rui also on for Ghoulam.

Napoli will be out of the blocks quickly to try and get an early goal and it could be time to throw Chucky Lozano on. We'll see what Ancelotti conjures up when the teams re-emerge.

Only 25 touches for Ronaldo in the first half. We suspect the Portuguese will want to see more of the ball after the break.

Napoli actually racked up more shots in the first half than Juve did, but only one was on target. Juve managed four, with two finding the back of the net.

45+3

And that's the half! Plenty for Ancelotti to ponder at the break.

45+2

Allan gets in a pickle and lets Juve in but Khedira puts a foot wrong for the first time this half and overhits a ball into the void.

45

Ghoulam delivers, Khedira clears, Zielinski takes a wild swipe at it and it's into the upper tier.

44

Ancelotti chews gum furiously on the touchline as he wonders what he can do about this situation... Napoli win a corner on the stroke of half time.

43

Di Lorenzo goes in the book for an ugly challenge on Alex Sandro and immediately holds up his hand in apology. It wasn't nasty per se, but very badly timed.

42

De Ligt plays a loose ball out of his own area and Mertens almost gets on the end of it. Not a very assured touch from the new boy there.

41

You have to ask how many it could have been for Juve this half were it not for Koulibaly, who covers the lines expertly again to make a fine challenge.

39

Napoli hoist a ball towards Insigne more in hope than anything else and he does what he can in the air but there's no support. Napoli are rightfully very wary of the Juve counter and unwilling to commit too many players forward at the moment.

36

Napoli pushing for an equaliser now and Ghoulam flashes one just  high and wide from distance. Ancelotti's team are finding a bit of ryhthm and pushing Juve back bit by bit.

34

Fabián sums up the Napoli mood by dragging a miserable effort wide from the edge of the area. You suspect the visitors need a goal before the break to make this a contest. Difficult to see where that's coming from at the moment though.

33

Napoli are really on the ropes here. And as yet, Ronaldo hasn't seen much of the ball.

32

Khedira! And to think Juve spent half of the summer trying to get rid of the German. What a strike! He turns on the edge of the area and absolutely cracks an effort against the bar!

31

Khedira is unamused as Mertens takes a dive and look imploringly towards the ref. Juve win a free-kick in midfield as Matuidi is floored.

29

What a stop! Meret! The Italy under-21 keeper has kept hs side in the game there with an incredible save from Khedira, who had the goal at his mercy after good work on the left from Alex Sandro.

27

Juve in complete control now as Napoli are reduced to a couple of speculative long range efforts.

There's a reason Sarri loves him so much...

25

Napoli looking a little lost now... that is quite the sucker punch they just endured.

23

The home fans are loving this... not even the most optimistc Juve supporter could have envisaged the game turning like that on a dime. And Danilo making such an impact.

21

The corner is a good one and Szczesny manages to get a fist to it. Bonucci took a thump in the melee and is bleeding profusely from a cut to the head.

Yeah, fair play really.

20

Corner to Napoli as they look to his back immediately...

19

The Argentinean appeared to have let a half chance go begging in the area but he hammered the ball with the outside of the boot and into the top corner! 2-0 to Juve in a flash!

19

Gooooooooooooool! Higuaín!

18

Juve have the bit between their teeth now and are buzzing about the pitch like dervishes.

15

Juve broke at speed from a blocked shot at the other end and Douglas Costa bided his time beautifully for the Brazilian to arrive. It wasn't the best of hits from Danilo but enough to cause Meret's attempted save with his foot to ping into the corner of the net.

15

Goooooooooooool! And it's Danilo! Incredible, he's only been on for 30 seconds!

14

Crikey... a change already as De Sciglio goes off injured and Danilo comes on to replace him.

13

Allan! What a shot from the Brazilian and what a save from Szczesny to deny him! That was curling into the bottom corner but the Poland keeper made a glorious diving stop!

11

De Sciglio fizzes a ball into the area but it's cleared and Napoli break. Pjanic goes in the book for making sure it didn't come to fruition.

9

Koulibaly! That's why Napoli reckon he's worth more than Ronaldo! The Portuguese was lurking there as the cross came but the Senegal defender was there to clear with authority.

8

Juve looking to get their foot on the ball now as they try and stem Napoli's ability to break. De Sciglio is on the end of another crunching tackle and the ref gives free kick.

6

Ronaldo gets a shot away and it flashes past the sticks of Alex Meret! An early sighter from the Portuguese.

4

Koulibaly again gets across to send De Sciglio flying. What a tackle from the Napoli man, who looks like he's on a mission this evening.

3

Douglas Costa burns away down the right and feeds Ronaldo, who dances across the front of goal and is absolutely flattened by Koulibaly... that, as they say, was a reducer.

2

Juve forced all the way back as Napoli's front three apply the push... the visitors win the ball back through their industry.

1

And we're off!

Ancelotti is confident his side can overhaul the perennial champions this season. This a perfect opportunity to take the early initiative.

Sarri, of course, took Napoli to within a whisker of the Scudetto in 2017-18, eventually losing out to the club he now coaches in the penultimate round of fixtures.

The teams are in the tunnel, it looks like a sell-out and the atmosphere is rocking in Turin!

We're about to get underway in Turin as the teams go through their final paces...

Cristiano Ronaldo has hinted he may retire at the end of the season... will he do so with another Champions League? That is one matter. The Scudetto is another and he'll be keen to make his mark this evening after having a goal ruled out by VAR last weekend.

Maurizio Sarri is in the house! Good news after that diagnosis earlier this month.

The warm-ups are underway in Turin...

Napoli opened the season with quite the classic against Fiorentina, Ancelotti's side winning a 4-3 thriller with Insigne, Mertens and Callejón all on target.

Juventus lost just four games in the whole of the 2018-19 campaign, two of those coming in a five-match winless streak at the end of the season with the title already safely wrapped up.

Napoli carved out a 1-0 win in Turin in this fixture two seasons ago, but went down 3-1 in 2018-19 as Juve did the double over their nearest challengers en route to the title.

And here's Napoli's XI. No place for new arrival Lozano, who hasn't had time to adjust yet we suppose, but it's still a pretty attacking line-up from Ancelotti.

Here's Juve's starting XI and De Ligt will get his game this evening. Ronaldo starts up top with Higuaín and Douglas Costa for company while Paulo Dybala has to make do with a spot on what is a ridiculously well-stocked bench

It remains to be seen if Maurizio Sarri will be directing operations from the touchline after the Juve boss was diagnosed with pneumonia earlier this month. However, his assistant Giovanni Martusciello suggested the old campaigner could return earlier than expected

As Carlo Ancelotti stated before the game, this will be an acid test for his side, who have been busy in the transfer market if not exactly spectacular. Konstantinos Manolas will form a formidable partnership with Kalidou Koulibaly though and Juve will have to find a way through that wall this evening

Here's Juve's squad list for the match, with quite a punch being packed up front.

The disparity in financial means between the clubs has never been better highlighted than during the summer, when Napoli broke their transfer record to bring in Hirving Lozano for 40 million euros and Juve chucked 75 million in the direction for Ajax for Matthijs de Ligt, who didn't even get off the bench during last weekend's 1-0 victory over Parma.

Last season Juve swept to an eighth successive Scudetto, finishing 11 points clear of Napoli in second.

It's a little early in the season to be bandying words like "defining" and "crucch" about but if anyone is to lay a glove on Juve's domestic dominance this season, it would be a good time for Napoli to lay down a marker.

Hello and welcome to AS English's live coverage of the Serie A fixture between Juventus and Napoli from the Allianz Stadium in Turin.
