Arsène Wenger admits desire for Arsenal return amid other offers
At 69 years old, the French coach, nicknamed 'The Professor', is missing being directly involved in the game and has eyes on a the Premier League club.
Arsène Wenger spent 22 years of his life as manager of Arsenal FC and left a big impression at the club. The French coach, a relative unknown in England at the time, took the reins of the gunners in 1996 and left under a cloud in 2018, despite having won three Premier League titles and seven FA Cups. At the age of 69, he could be forgiven for wanting to take it easy, but Arsène is missing the game, and may have eyes on a return to The Emirates Stadium targeting more success.
Wenger keen on footballing return
Wenger has admitted in several interviews that he is "desperate" to return. He is resisting retirement and during an interview with beINSports he acknowledged that he maintains contact with Arsenal and that he would enjoy going back to the club he spent more than two decades, although not as a first team coach.
“I have been in contact with many people at the club, although I've tried to keep my distance. I think it's still a little early, but I would like to go back to the club, not as a coach, but perhaps as an asset to the football department.”
He also revealed that he had had a proposal from Fulham to mange again, but that gave he chose to reject it.
“I was tempted, but I was afraid to throw myself into the project. Right now, I feel like someone who has woken up from a 35-year coma and finally sees something different from my club, the game and my work.
“So I thought I needed more time to analyse things from a distance. ”
Arsène Wenger has been in football management non-stop since 1985. His journey took him via Nancy and Monaco in France, to Nagoya Grampus in Japan before the big step to Arsenal. Now, almost 35 years later, he feels that something is missing. Just like his rival for many years, Jose Mourinho, there is a thirst to return.
