Zidane faces his first true test with 7 games in 22 days
After the international break, Real Madrid play 5 LaLiga games and two in the Champions League as Zidane faces his first real test after returning to the bench.
The international break is drawing to a close and with it, Real Madrid will get back into the swing of things for the first time this season. That means two games per week for the next number of weeks as cobwebs have been dusted off after the summer and both time and thought have been put into fixing the issues of those first three weeks.
Real Madrid have seven games in 22 days with five in LaLiga and two in the Champions League coming up. They play PSG, Sevilla and a derby against Atlético Madrid during that spell as Zidane looks to reverse some poor early form that saw them draw two of their opening three encounters in the league.
The Santiago Bernabéu is the site of the first encounter on Saturday 14 against Levante. Paco Lopez' side beat Real Madrid last year and left Lopetegui on the edge of his eventual sacking. Four days later, the Champions League returns and they couldn't have landed a more difficult opponent in the opening game than PSG. It was be a slightly less robust game than you might usually expect as Neymar and Ramos miss out through suspension and Mbappé and Cavani potentially miss it through injury. If they do lose, however, it leave them exposed in their group and chasing the Ligue 1 side.
Sevilla and the ghost of Lopetegui
That next hame back, on Sunday 22, will see Madrid come face to face with their former manager, Julen Lopetegui, for the first time. Last season, under Lopetegui, they were beaten 3-0 by the home side at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan during a five-game winless run in which they accumulated 481 minutes without scoring and which left Lopetegui without a job.
A derby date with potential league leaders
Real Madrid play Osasuna at the Bernabéu before the derby on Saturday 28, which is a day before the one last year although this one will be at the Wanda Metropolitano. It is a chance to catch Atlético and put a dent in the four point lead they have built up after three games.
A double date at the Bernabéu to start October
October arrives before the second international break with a two games for Madrid at the Bernabéu. On Tuesday 1, Zidane will welcome Brugge to the city in the second group game after the PSG encounter. Then on Saturday 5, Granada visit before the international break pulls the squad apart for the second time this season.
