CD Tacon: Real Madrid assembly approves women's team
Florentino Pérez said the agreement to create Real Madrid's women's side would cost €300,000 and promised investment. The plan was approved by huge majority.
Real Madrid’s members have voted to officially approve the incorporation of CD Tacon into the club’s sporting infrastructure for ahead of the 2020-21 season. The vote was put to an extraordinary assembly of club members on Sunday and was approved by a huge margin of 90.6 percent in favour (810 votes), 4.9 percent against (44 votes) and 40 abstentions.
Therefore, CD Tacon will officially become Real Madrid Femenino on July 1, 2020.
At the general assembly presided by Florentino Pérez on Sunday, the Real Madrid president said the initial cost of absorbing Tacon would be 300,000 euros and promised significant investment in the side.
Tacon already train and play at Madrid’s Valdebebas training complex and the lure of playing for the team has already seen the arrivals of big-name signings including Sweden internationals Kosovare Asllani and Sofia Jakobsson, France defender Aurélie Kaci, England forward Chioma Ubogagu and Brazilian internationals Thaisa and Daiane.
Tacon recorded their first victory on Saturday with a 3-0 win over Sporting Huelva after suffering a 9-1 drubbing by Champions League runners-up Barcelona in their Primera Iberdrola debut a week earlier.
Pérez: "The moment has arrived for Madrid to have its own women’s team"
“Women’s football is an indisputable reality,” Pérez said after the vote. “It has been growing in a spectacular fashion and Real Madrid should form part of it. The moment has arrived for Madrid to have its own women’s team. The absorption of CD Tacon will be based on its excellent academy so as to remain faithful to our philosophy. We will work to develop young talent. Furthermore, the recent promotion means competing in the Spanish top flight. There are no limitations on what we can achieve with the future of our team. Our commitment from July 1, 2020 will be to further strengthen football in our country and compete at the highest level with our club crest. The time has come to build a team that will be competitive and that we can all be proud of.”
