Barcelona beat Sevilla to go second but red cards mar finale

Barcelona vs Sevilla: as it happened!

GAME OVER! Barcelona impress with a clinical finishing display. 4-0 it ends.

Into the last minute now. Those cards stain this result for Barcelona but the 4-0 win isn't bad.

Banega with a foul on Suarez. Yellow card.

Straight red for Dembele too.

Araujo versus Chicharito and he pulls him back. He gets a red card.

Suarez through on goal and Vaclik with the save.

Pique booked now for a foul as Navas tries to drive forward. It was Semedo with the foul and Pique kicked the ball away.

The Camp Nou in fine voice now. Sevilla put up a good fight for some of the first half but those chances killed them.

GOAL! GOAL! Messi from the free kick. Always going in really, wasn't it?

Free kick for Messi. Really dangerous position.

Chicharito wins a corner.

Barcelona just stalling here and trying to run out the clock, as they say.

Sevilla have run out of ideas here. Munir fouled by Pique.

Cross in from Navas and it's palmed away by Ter Stegen. Another decent chance but nobody on hand to turn it home.

Vidal off for Rakitic.

Corner for Sevilla and they take it short. Nobody from Barcelona watching. Shot comes in and it's blocked. Sevilla looking very tired.

Dembele with a strike. He drives it over the bar from a lovely pass from Vifal. One he will be trying to forget as quickly as possible.

Semedo does really well to win a corner as he backheels into defender.

Chicharito on for Sevilla. De Jong off.

Arthur off for Busquets.

Suarez with a booking. He falls over Carrico and then trips him up.

Lovely spin by Arthur to break into Sevilla territory. Lopetegui's side getting tired.

Messi brutalises Sevilla's defense and strikes. Vaclik saves and palms out for a corner.

Reguilon breaks forward and finds Ocampos. He strikes and it's well over. Really not their night tonight.

Barcelona just taking the steam out of this one now. Sevilla are out of ideas.

Ocampos with another cross and it's blocked and deflected for a corner.

Reguilon rounds Vidal and strikes. It will take something better than that to beat Ter Stegen.

First chance falls to De Jong and he rattles the post. Barcelona caught out at the back and nearly suffer for it. De Jong can't convert.

We are back underway! Sevilla try to make a comeback.

Two changes for Sevilla. Jordan and Munir for Nolito and Oliver Torres

HALF-TIME! Incredible half from Barcelona, who are three goals to the good after a clatter of goals in the middle of the opening 45.

Messi looks for Suarez with a through ball but it's just a little heavy.

Ocampos drills one wide. Semedo caught out of position and Ocampos finds himself in space. Nota very good shot though.

Another corner for Banega.

Yellow card for Semedo as Ocampos is pulled down on the counter.

Dembele with the finish! What an incredible goal. He dummies Diego Carlos out of the way and slots home. Great finish.

Sevilla under pressure here. Carrico booked now for pulling Sergi Roberto back outside the box. Another chance for Messi but it's a fair bit out.

Looks like he's on.

GOAL! Arturo Vidal, it looked like. Arthur sent the ball in and it might have taken a nick off Vidal. There might also be an offside.

Corner for Sevilla. And Barcelona struggle again but they survive. Back to Ter Stegen and Barcelona work it out.

GOAL! GOAL! GOAL! Suarez with the goal. Cross in from the right is from Semedo and he chilenas it home. Beautiful finish.

Again. How did he miss? De Jong has it put on his foot. Ocampos with the perfect cross and he heads it down into the ground and over.

Dembele finds Messi in behind and Diego Carlos slides in to clear. Corner for Barcelona. They're starting to grab control of this one.

Lovely cross from Navas and Tobido heads away.

Mesis free. Well over the bar though from a tight angle.

Yellow card for Reguilon. He pulls Messi down from a pass in over the top. Messi peeled off him and the Real Madrid loanee grabs a handful of number 10.

How did he miss? De Jong at the back post. He sends it back across goal and it drifts wide. Another scare for Barcelona.

Sent back in by Dembele and Pique takes a nice touch but can't control it well enough as Vaclik grabs it.

Corner for Barcelona. Headed out by Sevilla. a few white jerseys there to get it away.

Almost a perfect pass for Vidal from Messi. He takes a dodgy touch, with the ball flying towards him, and Vaclik grabs it.

Ocampos with a nutmeg of Tobido in the box. De Jong gets it and they try to manufacture a strike but they can't. Corner as Pique saves the day. Corner headed wide by Diego Carlos.

Really nice switch from Reguilon and it's crossed into De Jong. Lovely strike, excellent save! Ter Stegen knew nothing about it.

Semedo with a lovely move and cross. He sends it in low but nobody there to greet it. Barcelona keep it and continue to look dangerous.

Cross from Banega looked like it took a deflection but it was just really, really bad.

Lovely little flick by Messi onto Vidal and he crosses deep. Sevilla clear and attack.

Through ball in search of Oliver Torres and it's too heavy. Ter Stegen gathers. this is real end to end stuff. Dembele starts the game on the left.

Really nice move down the left, this time by Barcelona, and they win a corner. Semedo the man venturing forward.

Nice work down the left from Sevilland and Reguilon wins a corner.

Barcelona not having it all their own way. Sevilla, as expected, pushing forward every chance they get and pressuring defenders and keepers on the ball.

Long ball in from the right and Ter Stegen fails to grab it. Barcelona manage to scramble it away though.

We are underway a tthe Camp Nou. Sevilla get us started and play it around the back to begin.

Players emerge onto the field.

Sevilla's record against Barcelona is 40 wins 35 draws and 94 losses.

Sevilla in the house. Big chance for Oliver Torres. He has been slowly working his way into Lopetegui's plans and could be key tonight to Sevilla's creativity.

Last time Lopetegui played Barcelona, it ended 5-1 and it also ended his tenure as Real Madrid manager.

There was some talk about Messi and Griezmann's relationship prior to the Inter Milan game. Griezmann said they didn't really talk much and then he didn't play very well against the Italian side with a deeper look into the stats after that game. It appears they don't connect on the pitch very much, which hasn't helped the narrative that they don't really see eye to eye.

Not a bad front three with Griezmann on the bench!

The return of Messi has brought with it a sense of calm to the Camp Nou. Lopetegui's side, who love to press, looking to bring back a little chaos tonight!

Ter Stegen

Ter Stegen becomes the first foreigner to play 200 games in goals for Barcelona tonight.

Ocampos does start though and that might be a really tough task for whoever plays on the left, most likely Semedo.

Chicharito has two goals in four games this season but he has only played 41 minutes in LaLiga and neither of his goals came in the domestic competition. Seems Lopetegui doesn't think he fits into his system yet. It's the same as when they played Real Madrid when De Jong got the nod up front. They didn't create much at all that day but with Lenglet out, Firpo injured and Jordi Alba on the bench, they might have some more luck tonight.

Sevilla XI: Vaclik, Reguilon, Carrico, Diego Carlos, Jesus Navas, Fernando, Oliver Torres, Banega, Nolito, Ocampos, De Jong.

Clement Lenglet is suspended for the game and Tobido steps in for him. Meanwhile, Busquets has been left on the bench alongside Griezmann as Vidal and Dembele get starts.

Barcelona XI: Ter Stegen, Semedo, Piqué, Tobido, Sergi Roberto, De Jong, Arthur, Vidal, Suárez, Messi, Dembélé.

That win over Inter Milan has smoothed things over at Barcelona. With Messi in the team, anything is possible. We already knew that but something we need a reminder. Report from Argentina, however, suggest Marcelo Gallardo is being considered to replace Ernesto Valverde if they don't improve and start playing more consistently.

The good news for Messi and the bad news for Sevilla is that there is no team he has scored more against. with36 in 37 games, he will be looking to continue that streak tonight.

Messi announced his return against Inter Milan during the week with an inspiring display! He has some catching up to do with the likes of Lewandowski and Gnabry on hot streaks in front of goal to start the season.
