Odriozola brings Los Blancos' red count to three

Álvaro Odriozola's early bath in Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Real Mallorca means Real Madrid have now had three players sent off in LaLiga so far this season. The second-half dismissal, earned for picking up two bookings, follows on from the red cards shown to Luka Modric against Celta Vigo in August and to Gareth Bale against Villarreal in September. It is the first time in 14 years that Madrid have collected as many reds within the first nine games of a league season.

Mallorca boss marks milestone with famous win

Mallorca's victory over Madrid, claimed courtesy of Lago Junior's seventh-minute strike at Son Moix, was the perfect way for head coach Vicente Moreno to celebrate his 100th competitive match in charge of Los Bermellones.

Appointed in 2017, Moreno achieved successive promotions from Segunda División B, Spain's regionalised third tier, to lead Mallorca back to the top flight after a six-year absence. Saturday's memorable win lifted the team out of the LaLiga drop zone and into a provisional position of 15th.

Galatasaray sweating on Falcao and Feghouli fitness

Question marks continue to surround Galatasaray striker Radamel Falcao's availability for Tuesday's Champions League clash with Real Madrid. The Colombian has missed the Turks' last two matches with an Achilles tendon issue, although head coach Fatih Terim has insisted the club "will try to get him fit" for the crunch Group A game, which both teams go into with just one point to their name.

Galatasaray are also sweating on Sofiane Feghouli, who was another player missing from Friday's 3-2 Süper Lig win over Sivasspor. Having recovered from a hip problem, however, Mario Lemina has now returned to training.

On this day in Real Madrid's history...

On 20 October 1971, Real Madrid earned a 3-1 first-leg victory over PSV Eindhoven in the second round of the UEFA Cup, which was in its first season after replacing the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup. Goals by Eduardo Anzarda, Ico Aguilar and Amancio Amaro seemed to leave Madrid well-placed to progress at the expense of a Dutch side featuring Guus Hiddink, who in 1998/99 would have a short spell as coach of Los Blancos.

However, Oeki Hoekema's reply for PSV at the Bernabéu would prove crucial, as the Rood-witten ran out 2-0 winners in the return in the Netherlands - a result that sent Madrid tumbling out of the competition on away goals. PSV were then knocked out by Belgians Lierse SK in the following round, before Tottenham Hotspur went on to lift the trophy after defeating Wolves in an all-English final.
