Mourinho joy at Liverpool's Old Trafford stalemate "The record is mine not theirs"

Manchester United scraped a draw against leaders Liverpool largely down to a highly defense set-up which the visitors didn't know how to pick apart. Reds manager Jürgen Klopp reflected afterwards that his side feel relieved to have taken a point rather than have lost the match: "Prertty much everything went against us - our own performance in the first half as well. It's clear that it's easier for United in a situation like that with us coming here to set out 5-3-2 - everybody's happy about that but we didn't get the momentum of the first half, they had it. We have to be happy with the pointbut we are not happy with our performance, but that's ok, that's the way it is sometimes," Klopp explained. "We did all the predictable things and they could defend all the predictable things. Why should United's gameplan frustrate me? I'm not a person who should be frustrated by United's style. It's just a fact. When we come here - this year. last year and the year before, they just defend. That's all it is, it's ok. It's no criticism, it's just a fact. It's no excuse, we expect to do better and we can do better but we didn't. But they cannot play against every team like they played against us today, but that's not for me to speak about".

Three draws in the last five meetings in this fixture

But Mourinho thinks that a draw at Old Trafford would have hurt Klopp: "He didn't like the menu. He likes meat and got fish, so of course he's not happy," chuckled Mou. "United with the limitations they have played a different profile of performance. They were always compact - they were organised and had a game plan, you can agree or disagree but they stuck to their plan".

Mou had another reason for feel pleased with himself as Sunday's result means Liverpool fell just short of the Premier League record for consecutive victories, set by his Chelsea side in 2005-2006: "I'm really happy they didn't win because the other record is mine, not theirs. Jurgen clearly has a little bit of frustration. At Old Trafford, which is a special place for Liverpool to win, he never did it".

Klopp not interested in records

Klopp won't be too bothered by that, as he mentioned a couple of weeks ago: 'I'm not interested in the number - It's just a number. You can only create a streak like that if you're always in the next job," he reasoned. As for Liverpool's run coming to an end, he told Sky Sports, "It was always going to happen at some point - we never thought about this. These boys are in so many departments of Liverpool history. Now we can stop talking about that and start a new series and we have to. They are coming thick and fast".
