Man City sack PR firm behind ad looking for 'influencers''
The club said they did not know about the ad which was looking for influencers to show off the electric atmosphere at the Etihad for Champions League games.
Manchester City have responded to an embarrassing post recruiting 'influencers' to attend their Champions League games this season by sacking the company behind the campaign according to the Daily Mail.
PHD Media Manchester were the company behind the advert, which showed up on the app Tribe. Tribe connects content creators with brands. In the ad, it stated the club were looking for males between 18 and 55 years old, who were Man City fans although that was not required.
"We want content that showcases the electrifying atmosphere that only Champions League live football matches can deliver," read the advert. They were also keen to induce FOMO (fear of missing out) for those looking at said content. #notjustanyclub was the hashtag they included in the advert.
The ad said that they were looking for content because of the three "relatively unknown" opponents City had drawn in their Champions League group - Dinamo Zagreb, Shakhtar Donetsk and Atalanta. The club, however, say they did not grant permission to search for such content creators and did not have any knowledge of the ad according to the report in the Daily Mail.
