Barcelona extend Champions League unbeaten record

It may not have been the three points that Ernesto Valverde was hoping for as his side left the Camp Nou pitch, but their run at home continues.

FC Barcelona may be having a mixed start to the 2019/20 season but they, at least, hold claim to a record in the Champions League: the longest unbeaten home run.

Fortress Camp Nou

The Group F match at home to Slavia Prague was a chance to extend their impressive run to 34 games, and Ernesto Valverde's men delivered. Just.

A disappointing draw for the Catalans meant their European results at the Camp Nou have consisted of 30 wins and 4 draws. This is the longest streak without a loss in the competition and dates back to 2013 when Bayern Munich put an end to their trophy hopes. And it was the Bundesliga giants who previously held this record, having gone 29 home games undefeated between 1998 and 2002.

The LaLiga holders have only lost one of their last 56 Champions League encounters at home, although, as they will be at pains to forget, this doesn't always lead to success. In the last two campaigns they have seen comfortable first leg victories overturned when on their travels to both Rome and Liverpool.

Next up for Barça in the Champions League is another home match against Borussia Dortmund, where they will be without the now-suspended Gerard Piqué. Can they extend their record to 35?
