Real Madrid optimistic over Hazard injury in PSG draw

Real Madrid optimistic over Hazard injury in PSG draw

Eden Hazard set the alarm bells ringing at Real Madrid after limping out of Tuesday's Champions League group-stage draw with Paris Saint-Germain.

The club-record summer signing, who after a slow start to life at Madrid has begun to hit form in recent games, hurt his ankle in a challenge with PSG defender Thomas Meunier shortly after the hour mark.

Second injury absence of 2019/20 for Hazard?

After receiving treatment, Hazard had to be helped off the field by doctors in evident pain, and was replaced by Gareth Bale.

Hazard is helped off the field in Real Madrid's Champions League draw with PSG on Tuesday.

The good news, according to Spanish show El Larguero, is that initial scans show that there was no damage to the bone and the injury is only an ankle sprain. Hazard went straight to Madrid's Clínica Sanitas and was there around 15 minutes before leaving on crutches, but with a big smile. Later on Wednesday more details on the extent of the injury should be revealed.

The Belgian international's missed nearly a month at the start of the season with a hamstring issue and had a titanium plate in his ankle since fracturing it in 2017 when on duty with his national team.

"It's a worry," Madrid head coach Zinedine Zidane said immediately after the game. "It's more than just a knock, but hopefully it's not too serious. He's gone to have tests now, and we'll see." The countdown is now on to see whether he can be fit for the first Clásico of the season against Barcelona on 18 December at Camp Nou.

PSG win group after Mbappé, Sarabia seal comeback

Karim Benzema's double looked to have put Madrid on course for victory over PSG, only for goals by Kylian Mbappé and Pablo Sarabia to earn a point that ensures the Frenchmen will top Group A.

Club Brugge's failure to beat Galatasaray in the group's earlier kick-off meant Madrid's place in the last 16 was confirmed before they took to the field.
