Champions League last 16 finalised ahead of Monday draw

Liverpool, Napoli, Dortmund, Valencia, Chelsea and Lyon all confirmed their places in the round of 16 in the 2019-20 Champions League, as did Atalanta and Atlético Madrid.

The line-up for the next round of the 2019/20 UEFA Champions League is complete, with all 16 advancing sides now confirmed following the conclusion of the group stage.

Tuesday's action saw holders Liverpool, Napoli, Borussia Dortmund, Valencia, Chelsea and Lyon all confirm their places in the round of 16 while on Wednesday Atalanta completed their fairy tale run to the knock-out phase by beating Shakhtar 0-3 (while Manchester City destroyed Dinamo Zagreb's dreams with a 1-4 trouncing). Atlético Madrid were the final team into the last 16, with a 2-0 win over Lokomotiv Moscow.

PSG, Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Juventus, Barcelona, RB Leipzig, Valencia and Liverpool will all be the top seeded sides in Monday's draw having topped their respective groups with Real MadridTottenham, Napoli, Dortmund, Lyon, Chelsea, Atalanta and Atlético Madrid completing the 16

Where and when is the draw for the second round of the Champions League?

The draw for the last 16 of the Champions League will take place on 16 December at 12:00 noon at UEFA's headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.

After the Champions League draw, at around 1pm, the draw for the first knockout round of the Europa League will take place, featuring 32 teams.

Champions League draw rules

The draw for the last 16 of the Champions League is done in line with a number of conditions. Teams who have already played together in the group stages cannot be drawn together, nor can teams from the same country.

The teams who finished top of their group (placed in Pot A) will meet second placed qualifiers (Pot B).

This means Real Madrid could meet Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Juventus, Liverpool or Leipzig, while Atlético Madrid, who also finished second, could meet PSG, Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Liverpool or Leipzig.

Table-toppers Barcelona could face Napoli, Tottenham, Chelsea, Lyon or Atalanta, while Valencia, who also finished first, have similar possible opponents: Napoli, Tottenham, Borussia Dortmund, Lyon and Atalanta.
