With Los Blancos, as well as PSG, making serious advances towards the soon-to-be-out-of-contract Tottenham midfielder, a change of heart is targeted.

José Mourinho loves Florentino Pérez. This was something the Portuguese coach himself confessed to in a press conference as soon as he arrived at Tottenham. But in one of his first decisions at the London club, it would appear that he could end up frustrating an element of the Real Madrid strategy.

Mou aims to prevent Eriksen to Madrid move

Christian Eriksen is one of the known desires of Los Blancos, but Mourinho’s early days at Spurs has proved enough for him to make keeping the great Dane at the club. According to Foot Mercato, the Portuguese manager will aim to convince the midfielder, whose contract expires on 30 June 2020, to extend his Tottenham career and be part of his new project.

Although remaining somewhat ambiguous in his answers when asked about Eriksen, Mourinho is reported to often drop out phrases in training that suggest otherwise. “That is the sign of a player who will stay,“ he’ll comment.

More formally, however, Mourinho has been more reserved.

“Of course, I had a conversation with him,” the manager said when asked about the player’s future. “I have to defend the interests of my club.

My club is more important than my players and my players are more important than me. But I believe that the club is more important than any of us.

“He is a fantastic player, but given the situation, I must first think about the interests of the club.”

So, what are the interests of Tottenham? At the moment, Eriksen has a contract running down and there are two huge clubs lurking, Real Madrid and PSG.
