Last-gasp Firmino winner sees Liverpool progress to CWC final

Monterrey-Liverpool (FIFA Club World Cup)

So, as anticipated it will be Liverpool against Flamengo in the 2019 FIFA Club World Cup final on Saturday as the Reds left it late to see off a stern performance from Mexican side Monterrey in Doha.

It was substitute Bobby Firmino who delivered the killer blow in time added on after fine work from Salah and Trent Alexander Arnold to break Mexican hearts.

That's the final whistle in Doha and Liverpool progress to Saturday's final where they will face Flamengo.

Monterrey push as Layun almost fines Funes Mori.

Cruel on the Mexican side as we´ll have 3 mins of added time

Great work initially from Salah as the ball falls to the Brazilian who steals in to poke home from an Alexander Arnold delivery

Goooooooool. Firmino makes it 2 for the Reds

Pizarro off-Gonzalez on for Rayados

2' left here in Doha. Liverpool corner...

Three high class substitutes from Liverpool could be decisive in turning the tide of this tie...The Mexican side have been hugely impressive and it's been far from a vintage performance from the current Premier League leaders.

85

Monterrey seem to be the tireder of the teams as Origi makes way for Firmino.

Firmino poised to make an entrance as the game is held up

....seems to be a muscular issue

Ortiz goes to ground and seems to be in trouble.

Less than 10' remaining in Doha. Is there a late goal here at the Khalifa Int. Stadium?

Change for the Mexican side as Pabon makes way for Meza

Salah is in but impeded by the Mexican keeper and the offside flag

Alexander Arnold on for Milner

Layun on for the injured Montes

Gallardo carded for a foul on O-Chamberlain

Sanchez heads but Alissn deals with the effort

Rayados press and win a corner.

Klopp carded for complaining

Just one change to date from both Klopp and Mohammed as the clock ticks down and we face the proposition of extra time

20' remaining in Doha. Things finely poised with either side capable of snatching the game.

Huge round of applause for the Senegal striker here in Doha.

Shaqiri off-Mane on

Funes Mori tests Alisson again.

67

Salah shoots but fails to secure speed and punch on the effort as Mane is poised to make an entrance

How did Pabon miss that .... the Colombian striker has the goal beckoning but drives high and wide .... Rayados closer to a second rather than the English outfit

Sadio Mane warming up on the Reds bench. Klopp needs to do something to inject some fresh impetus into his side.

62

The ball is in the Monterrey net but immedialñtly the flag is up against Salah and Keita for offisde.

60

Oxlade-chamberlain has a speculative long range effort but fails to secure a clean hit on the ball which trickles wide.

Gomez, first name in the book tonight

58

Keita goes close as Gomez fouls Funes Mori in the subsequent action

54

Salah almost wriggles free in the area but fails to connect with his drag back and the danger is averted for the Mexican side.

It's the Rayados fans with their "Vamos Monterrey chant" that can be heard at the Khalifa Int. Stadium at present.

Great free kick from Pâbon who once again calls Alisson into action. Monterrey have come closer to bagging a second rather than the English side.

Liverpool the side to start the action

Both sides take to the pitch with the second half set to start.

Nice animation of the Flamengo goal from Bruno Henrique as part of the Brazilian sides 3-1 win over Al Hilal in the first Club WC semi-final

A decent 45 with both teams very much in the game. Liverpool domination possession-wise but the better chances falling the way of the Mexican side.

That's all as the Chilean match official calls time on the action.

We'll have 1 minute of added time

43

What a pass from Oxlade-Chamberlain finding Keita in the box but Rayados keeper Barovero time his intervention to perfection and snuffs out the danger.

5 left in the first half.

Funes Mori has a speculative long range effort from inside his own half seeing Alisson off his line

38

Monterrey almost make it 2 as Allison comes to the rescue with a vital touch as Funes Mori and Pabon almost linked to put the Mexican side in the lead.

10' left in the first half. Liverpool the team with the ball and possession but Rayados looking dangerous every time they break.

LFC

The Liverpool FC XI ahead of the game

Despite limited goal mouth action (goals aside) it's a really bright game here in Doha.

31

Gallardo has a long range effort but the ball was always heading high and wide

Rayados are very much in this game. Defending solidly and looking to launch quick counter attacks, this game plan worked to a tee in the quarter final against Al Saad.

Pizarro looked lively in Monterrey's game against al Saad but we've seen little from the Mexican central player tonight as Pabon forces Allison into action.

The Khalifa International Stadium now looking close to capacity with very few empty seats. This was one of the games that was claimed by the organising committee to be a sell out ahead of the competition.

20

Possession after 20': 27-73 (%) Monterrey-Liverpool

Doha

Plenty of Reds fans in the Qatari capital with groups in the Gulf area travelling to Doha to see their side in action.

fans

Delight for the travelling Mexican fans in Doha.

Liverpool with no time to savour the opening goal are penned back within 60 seconds. Poor defending it has to be said from the Reds rear-guard.

Goooooool. Funes Mori puts the Mexican side back in the game latching on to a rebound to draw the game

What a pass from Salah as he finds the Guinean who finishes with style.

Goooooooooooooooooooooool Keita puts Liverpool ahead

10

Pabon and Funes Mori almost link up for the Mexican side but the pass is under-hit as Monterrey now look to strike on the break.

Salah is fouled with Shaqiri and Millner ove the ball. Very little from Rayados in the opening phase of the action as the free-kick is taken short.

Similar run for Klopp's men with three wins on the bounce.

Three wins from three for the Mexican side in their past three games

All Liverpool on the ball in this opening phase of the semi-final.

Shaqiri has a go from outside the box but fails to get his effort on target.

Southgate, Beckham & Nasser bin Ghanim Al-Khelaifi (PSG CEO) just a few of the big names already spotted inside the stadium.

Decent noise being generated inside the Khalifa Int. Stadium with plenty of red shirts and approximately 1.500 Rayados fans in Doha for the compettion.

1981

A shot from that '81 final as Liverpool's Souness takes on Flamengo's Muzer.

A Flamengo-Liverpool final would be a repeat of the 1981 final when both the Brazilian side and the "Reds" came head to head with Fla' winning out. Our very own Andy Hall looks back at that final and why a 2019 win in Qatar is so important to Liverpool.

Weather-wise, the rain has abated and we can expect a temp. of 18C come kick-off at the Khalifa Stadium.

fans

7,000 Liverpool fans expected in Doha for the tournament and Monterrey will be pushed on by their 1.500 supporters. Both fan groups dwarfed by the 15,000 Flamengo fans who have made the journey to the Gulf state.

So, Flamengo await in Saturday's final. The "Reds" are firm favourites to face the Brazilian side in the final but Monterrey will offer a stern test for the current Champions League holders.
