Head of FIFA Gianni Infantino lauded Qatar's Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) relating to the Gulf nation's World Cup 2022 preparation.

"The advanced stage of implementation is clear for all to see. I've been involved in the organisation of major football tournaments in the past 20 years and can confidently say that Qatar is at an advanced stage that I've never seen the like of before with less than three years to go before the competition gets underway in the peninsula".

"The 2022 World Cup will be a truly special event being the first of it's kind in the Middle East and am sure it will go some way in changing people's perceptions of the region" added the FIFA chief.

Infantino also expressed his happiness with the way the 2019 FIFA Club World Cup had transpired with the 2020 competition (also due to be staged in Qatar) set to be the last of it's kind in the current format before moving to a 24 team event as of 2021. China has been selected as the host nation for the new expanded Club World Cup format.
