Real Madrid: Reinier to sign long-term deal with LaLiga club
AS understands that the Flamengo starlet's transfer to Real Madrid has been all but finalised, with the player and his family now learning Spanish.
Reinier Jesus' move to Real Madrid is set to be confirmed once the player has turned 18 - his birthday is on 19 January - and after he has undergone a medical, for which no date has yet been set. AS understands that a six-and-a-half-year contract has been agreed with the Flamengo starlet.
Some days ago, Real Madrid agreed with Flamengo to pay Reinier's 30-million-euro release clause, which was lowered at the player's request when he extended his contract at the Brazilian club in November. 80% of the fee (24m) will go to Flamengo, while his family and agent will each net 10% (3m).
Reinier keen on Real Madrid's initial Castilla plan
Madrid's plan is to add the midfielder to the Castilla squad next month, after he returns from Brazil's involvement in South America's Olympic qualifying tournament in Colombia, which runs from 18 January to 9 February. Having been considering a move to a club of lower stature, such as Borussia Dortmund, Ajax and Everton, he is keen on the idea of initially continuing his development in the 'B' team.
Raúl and Zidane also a major draw for Flamengo starlet
The prospect of working under two legendary figures in the shape of Castilla coach Raúl and first-team boss Zinedine Zidane (he will get opportunities to train with the seniors right away), has played a crucial role in Reinier's decision to choose Madrid. Other major clubs such as Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain and Atlético Madrid also attempted to sign the 17-year-old.
Reinier's camp have now begun to prepare for the move to Spain, with house-hunting underway and the player and his family learning Spanish. Reinier's father - who previously lived in Spain for three years - his mother and his younger sister have been taking classes at home since last week.
Reinier has also been having Spanish sessions with the same teacher over the internet, given that he is currently away on international duty. The aim is for the player to be able to say a few words to his new fans at his unveiling.
