As far as football matches go, few come bigger than Liverpool versus Manchester United - the two most decorated clubs in English football with a rivalry to match. As we saw when these two sides met at Old Trafford back in October, it's absolutely irrelevant where either might be sitting in the league standings - this is a rivalry that goes back a long, long way and the 'occasion' can get inside players' heads. United would like nothing more than to be the team that brings Liverpool's record-breaking run in the Premier League to an end - and better still, in front of the Kop. Klopp's irrepressible Maschine haven't suffered a single defeat in the domestic league for over a year - and the last team to come away from Anfield with a win in the league was Crystal Palace in April 2017...
The Reds have the bit between their teeth, topping the table on 61 points and as if hosting United wasn't enough to get them going, they also have the chance to extend their lead to a dizzying 16 points after Manchester City were held at home to Palace on Saturday.
That was an additional, unexpected boost for Klopp who is delighted to have Fabinho and Joel Matip back after lengthy spells out injured. Dejan Lovren, Naby Keita and James Milner will all watch from the stands.
United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is buoyed by the return of Eric Bailly and Timothy Fosu-Mensah and could play three central defenders like he did back in the October fixture. His big doubt is whether Marcus Rashford will be deemed fit to start - Rashford, who is carrying a back injury, trained on Saturday but Solskjaer said he will wait until the last minute to make a decision. Luke Shaw, Axel Tuanzebe and Diogo Dalot are back training but are not expected to feature - neither is Marcos Rojo who is still nursing a calf muscle injury.
During the Premier League era, Liverpool and United have met 29 times at Anfield - with the visitors just having the edge during that time - there have been 10 home wins, 12 United wins and seven games have ended level.
United's last victory in L4 was in January 2016 when Wayne Rooney rifled home the winner with United's only attempt on target; from that Liverpool side, only four players are still at the club - Jordan Henderson, Adam Lallana, Milner and Roberto Firmino.
