Real Madrid player ratings vs Sevilla: LaLiga Santander
Real Madrid had to dig deep to see off stern resistance from Julen Lopetegui's Sevilla in a game where Brazilian Casemiro shone.
Real Madrid are top of the LaLiga table on Saturday night ahead of FC Barcelona's home clash against Granada on Sunday. Here's how Zidane's men fared in our 1x1 player match rating:
Courtois. Less impressive than recent displays at the Spanish Super Cup and despite some fine saves, looked anxious with Sevilla's dead ball situations.
Carvajal. A solid performance from the right back who also was alert at aiding the side making numerous forays into the Sevilla half.
Militao. The Brazilian is looking more and more comfortable in the white shirt and was at the heart of controversy when he was blocked by Sevilla's Gudelj in the 31st minute which led to De Jong's header being ruled out by the match official after a VAR consultation.
Varane. A solid performance from the French defender deputising for the injured Sergio Ramos as rear-guard marshal. Looked good moving the ball out from the back.
Marcelo. The Brazilian was chosen ahead of Mendy on the left hand side and although the player was accomplished in his defensive responsibilities.
Kroos. A discreet display from the German at the heart of the midfield who noted the absence of suspended Fede Valverde, with the midfielder unable to cover the same distance as the young Uruguayan.
Casemiro. AS English MVP: Scorer of both goals for Real Madrid and ever accomplished in both attacking and defensive tasks, a sterling display from the Brazilian.
Modric. Fine display from the Croatian who was unfortunate to get on the score sheet with a 81st minute effort going close.
Lucas Vázquez. The Galician winger looked rusty after his return injury and was afforded the entire game from Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane. Room for improvement.
Jovic. Another discreet afternoon from the Serbian international despite being involved in the opening goal with a fine assist to set up Casemiro.
Rodrygo. A quiet afternoon from the young Brazilian who delivered possibly his most low-key performance tin the famous white shirt.
Benzema. The French striker made a solid comeback after recovering from his hamstring injury that saw him miss the entire Spanish Super Cup. Despite playing for less than an hour, he looked busy and was a handful for the Seville rear guard.
Mendy. Came on for Marcelo in the 71st minute and looked particular sharp going forward despite getting a mild whistling from the Bernabéu crowd after an elemental error and losing the ball.
Vinicius. Replaced his Brazilian counterpart Rodrygo in the 62nd minute and provided a headache for the Sevilla defence. A commendable performance from the teenager who was quick to assist his side in defensive duties.
