Klopp: "We spent the whole week thinking about Norwich, not the league title race"
"At Dortmund it was exciting, surprising, intense, people asking silly questions…" but now's not the moment to talk about the title, says Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp.
Liverpool have the chance to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table to 25 points when they visit Norwich on Saturday evening. The gulf between Liverpool and Norwich in the standings is a massive 55 points - the two teams at polar ends of the table. That however, is not a true reflection of their season, warned Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp in today's press conference. Klopp was asked how he felt about his team's privileged position at the top of the table and how the title race in England compared to his experience in the Bundesliga. The German coach replied that the title race couldn't be further from his thoughts...
People look at the table and don't think about the game - Klopp
“I have no clue how it felt in the past to be honest," he began. "In Dortmund it was exciting, surprising, intense, people ask silly questions… you are not different to the Germans, so I can tell you that! It’s quite clear, if you want to be successful you have to be consistent – in a good way, then you’ll have the chance to win something.
"That’s it, that’s what we always wanted and so far, nothing has been decided. It’s actually the nicest problem you can have in football – to answer or not answer these kinds of questions but it’s still not possible really. We cannot say what you think we should say – because we don’t think it. And there are a lot of games to come and here we are in the press conference, before the Norwich game and we have had two or maybe three questions and Norwich haven’t even been mentioned. For me that’s, not my problem but Norwich is obviously my first concern – we have been preparing for this game since Monday, we haven’t been thinking about anything else. That’s exactly what we do. The only thing we can do is treat this game as the most important game of our lives, give everything we have to try to win it. People think it will be easy because they don’t really think about it, they only look at the table – they don’t consider the problems we might have tomorrow. But we know about the problems we can cause them as well and that’s what we’ve been doing for the past week".
