Bordalás: "Ajax are still the favourites, no doubt about it"
Getafe's coach was cautious after his team's great 2-0 victory over last season's Champions League semi-finalists, Ajax: "We worked like clockwork".
Getafe coach José Bordalás preferred to take a cautious approach after his team's impressive 2-0 victory over last season's Champions League semi-finalists, Ajax in tonight's Europa League Last 32 first leg tie at the Coliseum.
Could you have imagined a night ike this?
To be quite honest with you, no, I couldn't. We were drawn against the most complicated team of the round - last year's Champions League semi-finalists and an amazing team. We always believe in what we do and the team put in a great game. We managed to keep a side with great potential in attack at bay and stopped them from having clear chances on goal. Only towards the end of the game did we take our foot off the gas due to the effort we'd made. This team never gives in and in the last move of the game we had five players involved in a counter attack. 2-0 is a good result but by no means definitive.
No limits for Bordalás' Getafe
Is this the most special game of your career?
Fortunately, I have been very satisfied with quite a few Getafe games. I've always told the lads not to set any limits on what they are capable of. Tonight's game was fantastic, we provided great entertainment for a lot of people. I congratulate the players and the fans.
How did you stop Ajax from having a shot on target?
A football team is like the inner workings of a clock. If one part fails to work, the clock stops. Tonight the whole team worked like clockwork. We managed to neutralise a very powerful rival like Ajax with a greeat collective effort.
Are Getafe favourites to go through to the next round?
Ajax are still the favourites, there's no doubt about that. They have fantastic potential in attack and they've already shown what they can do against some big clubs. We'll enjoy this victory for a few more hours, knowing that there are still another 90 minutes to play against a brilliant side.
