The end of the seventh week of the Clausura 2020 left us with several surprises. We see Club America at the top of the table. as they defeated Monterrey and Pumas lost their first game of the semester against Monarcas Morelia.

Rafael Puente now has 10 consecutive losses as head coach

Rafael Puente continues his adventure as Atlas boss but can’t seem to decipher the team because they keep losing. The Mexican boss has 10 losses in a row, if you include the time he was at Queretaro, making this a record in the history of the Mexican championship.

Chivas won on their visit to Tijuana

The Caliente stadium is one of the most difficult places to play in the Liga MX. Since Xolos made it to the first division, Chivas had only won there once and it was in 2011. Guadalajara managed to score an early goal thanks to Macias and that was enough to give them the three points and their second victory of the semester.

Cruz Azul has four victories in a row

Last time Cruz Azul left empty handed was in the second week of the current semester. Since then the team managed by Robert Dante Siboldi has drawn once and won four consecutive games in a row. The last victory was on Saturday against Tigres and they will visit Morelia next weekend.

Monterrey can’t find a win

The current champions seem to be having a difficult time defending the title they won last semester. In seven games they have drawn 3 times and lost the rest of them. So far Monterrey only has 3 out of a possible 21 points. Currently the team managed by Antonio Mohamed is at the bottom of the table.

Pumas suffered their first loss

Pumas was the only undefeated team of the current semester. They hosted Monarcas Morelia in the seventh week of the Clausura 2020 but failed to get anything from it because the visiting team stunned everyone by scoring two goals and leaving with all three points.

America win their first game at Monterrey’s stadium

America and Monterrey faced each other for the first time since last year's final. The game was played at the BBVA stadium where America had never won in seven previous visits. This is the year for America, though, because with a single goal from Luis Fuentes they managed to get the victory and all three points. With this win Club America is now at the top of the table of the Clausura 2020.

A week with no draws in the Liga MX

The seventh week of the Clausura 2020 was a very unusual one because there were no draws in the nine games that were played. Puebla, Leon and Cruz Azul won their games at home while Pachuca, Chivas, America, Morelia, Atletico San Luis and Santos did so on the road. The last time this happened was on the 16th week of the Apertura 2020.

San Luis won their first derby

Nicolas Ibañez will be part of Atletico San Luis' history because with his goal he gave them their first derby victory over Queretaro at the Corregidora stadium. Last time San Luis defeated Queretaro was in 2000 but when they were both playing in the Primera A.

Santos got their first away win of the semester

Santos Laguna has not been one of the best teams but are still in the playoff picture as they lie in 8th place of the table. They visited Juarez in the seventh week and with great goals from Eduardo Aguirre and Brian Lozano they got their first away victory of the semester.
