Courtois: Three key saves in the first half especially the one-on-one with Arthur that he got a hand to. He played well in the second half too even though Barcelona's threat lessened. Nice save from Braithwaite at 1-0 too - 9.

Carvajal: Improved after the doubts that arose after Manchester City. Zidane gave him the entire right-hand side to roam and he did not disappoint - 8.

Varane: Complete performance. Quick to cut out options for Barcelona and very good with the ball out from the back. Good in the air too as he prevented Barcelona's attackers from causing problems in that department - 8.

Ramos: Decent game from the captain. He sats between Varane and Marcelo and covered plenty of space there when asked to step into the left-back role too. Could have scored but was ruled out for offside - 7.

Marcelo: The big surprise in Zidane's XI. He played well without getting back to his best. Suffered in defence and he wasn't decisive in attack. In the second half, his error for Braithwaite's effort nearly ended in disaster. Key intervention for Messi's chance later but still not near his best - 7.

Casemiro: He gives balance to Madrid. Impeccable in stopping Barcelona and preventing them from getting their passing going. Precise with his passing too - 8.

Kroos: Real Madrid are a better side with the German at the wheel in midfield. Assisted for Vinicius' goal and always offered support in advanced and deeper positions. Had a couple of efforts he couldn't take advantage of but looked dangerous on the break too at times - 8.

Valverde: the lung of Real Madrid. Runs and runs and runs and had Alba pinned back and under pressure early on. So important to Madrid and Zidane in everything he does going in both directions - 8.

Isco: Didn't play well in the first half as it seemed to pass him by but was very plugged in for the second 45. Best chance of the game for Madrid which saw Ter Stegen pull off an incredible save. Headed down and forced Pique to save off the line minutes later. Got an ovation from the Bernabéu as he was taken off after 78 minutes - 8.

Vinicius: Looked like it was going to be another one of those nights for Vinicius as he lacked the final ball. His speed is so important to Real Madrid and he ended up being the difference-maker. Had a number of chances and took one as he brought the Bernabéu's faithful to their feet. He became the youngest player to score in the Clásico this century with his goal too. A rare talent - 9.

Benzema: Fighting against the goals in 2020. Did well to link up play but not in dangerous position. Not his best game but got through plenty of work - 7.

Modric: Played the last few minutes and offered an option in the middle. It was all hands on deck at that point and a matter of preventing Barcelona mounting a comeback. Modric passed the test.

Lucas Vázquez: Won a free in a very dangerous position even though he only played for a few minutes at the end.

Mariano: Came on at the end to kill the game and broke Barcelona's hearts with the second goal. He got a slice of fortune with it but needed it.
