Coronavirus: The cases that have affected the sport in Mexico

On Friday night the Liga MX released a statement confirming that their president Enrique Bonilla tested positive to Covid-19 and this is the third case that has been reported in the sport in Mexico. The first one was Club Atletico San Luis president Alberto Marrero and then Mariana Arceo an athlete specialist in pentathlon.

1 - Alberto Marrero - President of Club Atletico San Luis

The 39-year-old owner is originally from Spain and due to work he had to travel to Madrid. Marrero returned to Mexico on March 14 and started showing the Covid-19 symptoms two days after. It was the club who announced that their president tested positive for coronavirus but so far none of the players or staff members have been reported to have Covid-19.

2 - Mariana Arceo - Pentathlon

The 25-year-old athlete is currently preparing for the Olympics in Tokyo and attended a training camp in Madrid a few weeks ago and returned to Mexico on March 15. Since she was in Spain, one of the most affected countries, Arceo decided to check if she had coronavirus and the tests came back positive. Currently she is under medical attention and in isolation to contain the virus.

3 - Enrique Bonilla - President of Liga MX

Enrique Bonilla is the latest case of coronavirus in the sport in Mexico. On Friday night TV Azteca journalist David Medrano broke the news after it was reported that Bonilla traveled to Spain a couple weeks ago for a work related trip.
