The United States became the first country to report more than 2,000 coronavirus deaths in a single day and as of Saturday morning the global death toll is more than 107,000 with the U.S. now becoming the global epicenter of the pandemic that started in China in 2019.

On the deaths reported (on Friday), 783 were in New York and the city now has a total of 8,627 according to Gov. Andrew Cuomo. That was a slight drop from the state's all-time high in single-day fatalities, which occurred Wednesday with 799 deaths and 777 on Thursday.

According to the Director for the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington’s School of Medicine Dr. Christopher Murray the country will soon experience the peak of Covid-19 deaths.

“We repeat each day the model we originally developed to study the situation in China and we gather data from all the states in the U.S. we are going to experience the peak of deaths very soon across the country,” said Dr. Murray.

It is expected that the United States death toll increases in the next week and it could be more than 100,000 by the end of the outbreak. This will all depend how people practice social distancing because if the suggestions that Donald Trump’s government are giving to the people are not followed, the number of deaths due to the virus could reach 2.2 million.
