Liverpool's Adrián: "I won't let one mistake get me down"
Liverpool goalkeeper Adrián is looking forward to the Premier League resuming and spoke about the Atleti game and Klopp: "He always says we win and lose together".
Liverpool goalkeeper Adrián says out of all of the emotions he is experiencing with the Premier League season nearing its return, fear isn't one of them. Jürgen Klopp's Reds were 25 points clear at the top of the table when the campaign was suspended in March due to the coronavirus pandemic. Reports suggest the season could get back underway in mid-June, although there are also claims some players are fearful over returning.
Liverpool's sprint to the title halted by coronavirus crisis
Adrián, who has made 18 appearances for Liverpool this season, said he is ready to return. "No fear at all," he told Cope Sevilla on Wednesday. "We'd been enjoying a fantastic season right up until this horrible virus stopped the whole world. We are adapting to this new reality and apart from that, we've been enjoying the time we've at home with our families. It is quite a serious situation, but we are professionals. We are here to do what we do, with respect and responsibility".
The United Kingdom has been hit hard by coronavirus, with more than 229,000 confirmed cases and a death toll exceeding 33,000.
The situation in the UK is still very serious
Adrián, 33, said the UK still had work to do in containing Covid-19, which has led to more than 297,000 deaths worldwide. "This week has been quite important regarding the meetings. There is still one with the captains, managers and coaches of the Premier League," he said. "They have given us the green light to train starting next Monday in small groups and the league is expected to start in mid-June. But right now the situation is still serious around here. You have to solve the number of people who are dying because of the virus."
Klopp is No.1 - the best coach in the world - Adrián
To end, Adrián was asked what Klopp is like to work with and as a person. "He's number one. Even before joining Liverpool, I thought he was one of the best coaches in the world, and after having been coached by him and now knowing him as a person, I've got to say, he's the number one - he's charismatic, he's affectionate with the whole team and they all love him - but above all, he's just a normal bloke. He's just a very human person who is close to all of his players. In my first conversation with him, he did't ask me anything about my fitness - just about my family, when did I come to England, what made me go to London, did I have kids... He's interested in what goes on when the ball isn't in play, which sometimes, is the most important".
Adrián on the Atlético game
Overall, Adrián has done well as Alisson's understudy but it's clear that playing the ball out with his feet is one of the weaker areas to his game, as was highlighted a couple of times this season, most recently in the team's last game, against Atlético Madrid. What did Klopp have to say about his mistimed clearance? Adrián explained: "He always supports his players. His slogan is that we all win together as one, and lose together. It was a shame about what happened in our last game because we practically had the tie sewn up but because of one thing, they turned the game around. As goalkeepers, we are always living on the limit - one minute we are heroes, the next, the villain. What we do has more repercussions that other players so we cannot make any kind of mistakes. I think we need to see mistakes for what they are, you can't go through life without making them. We can either win a game, or lose and when we lose, we have to lift ourselves back up, and keep going. It has taken me a lot of hard work to get here, and I won't let one poor decision or a mistimed kick affect me to the point where it gets me down".
