Tebas: "We hope LaLiga will return on 11 June with Sevilla-Betis"
LaLiga president Javier Tebas took part in #Vamos programme 'El Partizado de Movistar': "It is certain that the league will resume that weekend".
For the third week running, Javier Tebas was one of the guests on #Vamos programme El Partidazo de Movistar. The president of LaLiga gave some details about when the top two divisions in Spain will return, following on from Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez's comments yesterday about LaLiga resuming "from 8 June".
Pedro Sánchez's declaration: "It still has not been agreed, it took us a little by surprise that he announced it on Saturday. We knew that the Liga would be starting up again soon. We have been working with the CSD for months and I am very grateful to the government for the efforts they have made".
Date when LaLiga will return: "Every Monday, the country is entering a new phase of lockdown easing, which is why that date - 8 June was mentioned. We need to see and take a look at the days of that particular week to decide on which day we start. It also has to be linked with the phases of training sessions. It is looking like it will be that week - it could possibly be Thursday 11 June. We will hold more meetings with the RFEF and the CSD to sort out all of the pending issues".
Plan of action: "It will depend on how the clubs progress through the phases of their return to training but we hope it resumes as soon as possible - as long as all of the health and safety guidelines are met. We are working with television broadcasters to plan a strategy in the days running up to the restart. Looking at how training as been advancing, it could be the 11th, perhaps just one game, broadcast exclusively in Spain in honour of everything that we've been through. It could even be the 13th or the 14th but let's hope it's the 12th at the very latest".
One game to resume LaLiga: "We'd like it to be the Seville derby - Sevilla-Betis. Ideally on Thursday 12th. Again, depending on how training has progressed".
Playing football matches in summer heat: "We have always worried about matches being played when temperatures are high, we look at those issues in advance. We usually know the forecast and what temperature to expect on every day, in every part of the country. If there is a heatwave, kick-off times will be delayed. Mid-week games will be played in the evening-night. There will be three kick-off times for weekend games - 17:00, 19:30 and 21:30. The 5 pm kick-off games will be for matches played on the north coast, where the average temperature at that time is 28 degrees C. If there are any changes in temperature, kick-off will be put back an hour".
Groups of 14 can start training from Monday
From Monday, when Madrid and Barcelona enter Phase I of lockdown easing, LaLiga clubs can hold training sessions with groups of 14 players.
