Kerala epidemiology team to probe virus source as cases surge
Covid-19 cases continue to rise and in many instances, the source of infection isn't known. The state health department has decided to launch an epidemiological investigation into the phenomenon. The department will examine how patients contract the virus and from where. Most cases within that group is assessed to have been reported from Kollam, Kottayam and Kozhikode.
"The department will examine such cases separately. The Chief Minister had given an instruction in this regard at the high-level assessment meeting on 8 June," a health department officer explained.
Post-lockdown business booming for Vizag fishermen
The Vizag fishing harbour, the largest exporting centre with an estimated annual turnover of over ₹8,000 crore, became a beehive of activity with many boats returning to the shore in the early hours on Wednesday. Many fishermen also returned with a rich harvest of konam, The Hindu reports.
Even the fiber boats, which venture into the sea from Pudimadaka, about 50 km from the city, returned with a good catch of tuna, catfish, snapper and marlin fish, said A.P. Fisherfolk Foundation founder Arjili Dasu.
Sector-47 man among two new cases in Chandigarh
A 45-year-old man from Sector 47 and 34-year-old man from Khudda Jassu are two fresh cases of Covid-19 reported from Chandigarh on Wednesday. The city’s tally has reached 328, out of which 34 cases are active.
The Khudda Jassu man works at a medical store in Sector 16, whose owner’s son tested positive on Tuesday. The person has three family contacts who have been quarantined.
India's Covid-19 cases hits 280,000
India's confirmed cases of Covid-19 reached 280,000 on Wednesday - almost a third of that total was recorded during the first 10 days of June. On a more positive note, the daily number of people who have recovered from the virus, has exceeded the number of active cases for the first time.
Only four countries - the US, Brazil, Russia and the UK, have registered more positive coronavirus cases than India.
We saw Italy and then Spain and then America become the epicenters of the coronavirus. Now, it seems Delhi is set for an explosion of cases which could have an impact on the country for years to come.

The Union health ministry said. "The matter has been reviewed and it is now decided to reiterate that all CGHS empanelled hospitals, which are notified as COVID-hospitals by state governments shall provide treatment facilities to CGHS beneficiaries as per norms of the scheme, for all Covid-19 related treatments.
Jama Masjid may have to be closed again due to deteriorating Covid-19 situation in Delhi
Jama Masjid in Old Delhi could be shut again amid fears over the spike in coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases, the mosque’s Shahi Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari said on Wednesday, two days after it reopened because of the nationwide easing of lockdown restrictions, which were enforced from March 25 in a bid to contain the spread of Covid-19 outbreak.

Delhi continues to brace for spike
The authorities in Delhi have ordered 22 more private hospitals to make beds available for Covid-19 patients as numbers continue to rise in the city, officials have said.
New Delhi expecting half a million cases before the end of July
(AFP) New Delhi is bracing itself for more than half a million coronavirus cases by the end of July, according to a government official.
The Indian capital is home to some 20 million people and has so far registered 874 deaths from 29,943 confirmed cases. The city council has ordered private hospitals to start making preparations to accept coronavirus patients.
“We need at least 80,000 beds for 555,000 anticipated infections in Delhi up to 31 July,” Manish Sisodia, the deputy chief of the Delhi government, was quoted as saying by local media on Tuesday after an emergency meeting of the city authorities.

Maharashtra cases near 100,000
With 2,259 new cases of Covid-19 recorded on 9 June, the state has now registered 90,787 confirmed coronavirus cases.
India cases jump in June
India has registered 50 percent of all cases recorded in May in the first nine days of June, according to the latest available figures.
